Randomly, currently, truly BIG problem .... Lake Oroville and its spillways protecting the Dam .... if they get more heavy rain as forecast later this week and / or the weather up north were to turn hot all of a sudden with the massive snow pack built up in the Sierras. Mammoth has close to 30 feet already at the summit.

Pic 1 & 2 & 3 .... the main spillway which is concrete lined over to the left of the dam looking from below the dam. Water at high volume that is supposed to be flowing smoothly down the concrete channel now eating the earth alongside the concrete channel because of the huge hole visible in Pic 3 when they stop letting water down it.

Pic 4 .... taken this morning from the air of the emergency spillway further to the left. Like an infinity pool, it gets to certain point and just flows over the top. This is just a dirt and rock hillside with only concrete lining the top and and immediate slopes both sides. Note the big gouges already on the hillside in just the first day ever being used since the dam was finished in 1968. The highest dam in the United States. It's earth filled also by the way.

I hate seeing this. Before the draught and before Forever Resorts bought all the houseboat concessions and made them uber expensive, my family and close friends have done probably 7 houseboat trips to Oroville, most often to Bidwell Marina which in Pic 2 is on the upper right just over that tree covered hill closest to the dam. Couple other trips up at north end of the lake. Gorgeous lake when full, up near the great college town of Chico. Hey boats are Cool, just not for drunk MLB baseball players.

Good luck to all the people being evacuated in the low lying areas along the Feather River. Something like 200,000. This is a Huge lake, not quite as big as Shasta but big and it is full.

I was born in Redding, CA which is 1 hour and 45 minutes North of Oroville and this is the only thing people up there are talking about. I've driven by this dam before. Its crazy how this all happened and frankly could have been avoided. Over 100,000+ people had been evacuated. Just crazy...

    Phew...

But still weird. What do you gain by shaking a baby doll as a college student? Shock value laughs?
