I'm thinking of a way to get rid of Mozgov/Deng....

Lets just say that Boogie signs max contract with Pelicans, and we were willing to trade a youngling or 2 for boogie but we'd have to throw Mozgov or Deng in that deal, would the Pelican's or another team bite? I mean the Pelican's aint winning much with the current squad they have...

Pelicans just stole Cousins away from the Kings. They've played a handful of games. He has another year on his contract. I don't think they are going to entertain trading him anytime soon.

George Hill has undoubtedly made a huge impact on the Jazz as a productive steadying veteran. That said, 132 million over 4 years is ludicrous. Even in today's landscape of skyrocketing contracts. Yeah, the Jazz are clearly a lesser team when he is out with injury. Well, that's a key issue. He has missed 25 games this season, 6 last season and 38 the season before that. With Hill turning 31 in May, do you really want to commit that amount to an aging PG entering his 10th season who is showing durability concerns? Heck, 4 years 88.3 million is a lot but obviously more tolerable.

That is utterly preposterous. I was expecting him to get 60 million this summer tops.

Hayward has been a secret favorite of mine for a few years. I wish we could get him, but he doesn't strike me as Hollywood and he doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who would come join this 19 win team when his Jazz are so competitive.

Hayward is either staying where he is in Utah or joining his college coach in Boston. I'd be shocked if there was a Door #3, be it the Lakers or another team.

I'd be surprised if he left. They're an up-and-coming squad and he can get some big mullah there. They're in the sweet spot where they can continue growing as the top heavy teams fall apart. I could see them as serious contenders in 2 years.

No, it sounds like it wasn't OUR problem. We made the offer, they said no. Then teams hit up Vlade, ownership caved, and said, "Do it." With or without contacting us - unclear.

Yea but they gona run into spending issues too soon, once hayward signs and if they do cave into Hills demand they're screwed cause then the next season they have to pay lyles and hood, Utah isnt exactly known as a team thats high spenders

I'm not sure they pay much for Lyles. He hasn't done much to deserve a big payday. Hood is a little more problematic. I'm sure Hill renegotiates for a contract way under that ridiculous asking price. If not, Utah will let him walk. I don't disagree they're about to have to spend, but Utah is too thrifty to overpay for George Hill at the expensive of Rodney Hood.

I think the Lakers have to be careful w/the length of contracts they are willing to give. Deng and Mozgov signings are more or less epic disasters. Deng looks like he's 44 and poor Mozzy just isn't getting minutes (I still think he's serviceable for 20 mpg w/a good pick n roll PG... I'm talking you Lonzo Ball).

I'm willing to give max to either Ibaka or Milsap. I think they're versatile enough to plug into Luke's system. Both have good range and hit from 3. Both are vets and can be leaders on a young team ... probably more Milsap. You add Lonzo Ball + Milsap or Ibaka + a potential trade for Paul George. This team could suddenly be a 50 win team and make the playoffs.

I believe the cap will be around $102MM in 2017/18, slightly lower.

I saw an article - and I posted this in Gameday - but I don't know where the article is now. Two names that were tossed around, for shorter, high $ contracts:

James Johnson and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. If we offered both of them a hefty 1-year deal, we could field:

    Russell/(Ennis?)
    Caldwell-Pope/Clarkson/(Nwaba?)
    Ingram/Johnson/(Brewer?)
    Randle/Nance/Deng
    Black/Zubac/Mozgov

Depends what the draft has in store fore us, but we could do worse.
