I'd rather be aggressive on the trade market than free agency. I agree on not seeing great FA fits but also because I'd rather preserve cap space for 2018.

After seeing what he went for? Yeah. I wondered the same thing. It might have been a Pau Gasol type situation when Memphis traded him to us for what seemed like cap relief. Maybe Philly didn't ask around much and just decided to jettison him with the first offer they thought was somewhat fair.

If I want someone from Toronto specifically it's Ibaka.

I'm not going to say no to a 4x All-Star essentially in his prime for the record. I just figure Lowry will price himself out of what I want to pay.

If we spend all our cap space this off-season we probably won't have enough to offer someone a max in 2018 Free Agency.

We have to be smart this off-season.

Eh. To me it all depends on who you can get.

If you can get say Blake Griffin this summer, are you going to pass? Hell no. If I can get a star this summer, I do it and I sort out the rest later. I can shed salary if I absolutely have to.

Hope this isn't true. He's about to turn 31, he doesn't fit our timetable at all. Paul George is a totally different story as he will be 27 in May. We can't be spending money on players that don't fit our plans or how the league is set up right now (Warriors/Cavs rule all). I'd rather roll with Russell and continue to hope for him to develop than pay a 31 year old Lowry big money.

I pass on Blake Griffin... I have this thing where I don't want to cheer for players that flop and whine and have spent their entire career on a cursed franchise. No thanks.

But what salary to you think you could shed without having to give up an asset to do so? If we were to sign a significant talent this off-season.

I agree, I know we have to start somewhere but I'm not starting with Blake Griffin.

And I'm not evening saying this because of the flopping or antics. I just don't want him as a player

I think the flopping and whining came from playing with CP3.

And LO spent most of his career on the Clippers too.

Griffin is a talented player, and there's no looking passed that. If we happen to trade Randle in a deal for George, he might look down the hallway and see a younger, more viable team capable of getting past the 2nd round for once.

Odom spent most of his career on the Lakers. He was only on the Clips for 4 seasosn.

    I knew you'd say that. :D

It was just an example. It felt somewhat more realistic than saying "what if we could get LeBron!" but it's the same idea. If we can get someone good, I'm not passing now for the specter of later.

If I have to give up a future asset to sign a great player now, I'll do it. Great players are more likely to play with other great players. If this summer, for some reason, Griffin (or whomever stud FA) wanted to come here I will take that right now. After 4 seasons of less than 30 wins, give me the All-Star today because tomorrow another All-Star will look this way. When that happens, I'll attach a future pick to Deng to get rid of him or something. I'll figure out a way to do it, teams do it every year to make room for a star. If we assume George enters FA in 2018 as a viable candidate to join the team, I'll figure out a way to make it work, but he's not going to just join this team without any other good players here to help him transition. It won't happen.

Those Deng and Moz contracts - ugh!

We have to figure out a way to unload 1 of those 2 contracts this summer.

they suddenly loom large if you think the FO has again pivoted vis a vis FA's precedence in the long term plans. if the idea was just to keep growing the youth, those contracts aren't killers, really. if the idea is to get better now...they're almost insurmountable.

Even on the youth route, we will have to resign Julius, DAR, Zubac, and Nance all before the Moz/Deng deals expire. With JC those alone can put us over cap depending how everyone pans out.

He's been too tainted by the Clippers and CP3, Odom didn't have both. Odom also got a little time in Miami around Pat Riley to help wash off the Clippers' stink, and even then it took him years here to start to develop consistency, not to mention playing next to Kobe and Pau to help him along even further. I want no part of Blake Griffin as our first "star" signing. Whining, flopping, equipment manager punching douche.

I've said this all before, but I'd love to sign Hayward. He's a guy that was playing well, but got a contract that people, including me, thought was maybe a little too high. But, then he went out and played up to that contract, and then played above that contract, earning the money he was given. That's definitely a guy I'd like to have on my team.

If we straight up signed Hayward and later added George, my goodness.
