    Any form of disrespect whether it be an insult or even if these kids were egging the cops house on purpose, does not call for the gun to be drawn and fired. Had these kids put his life in danger, sure, there's clause.

    But the actions of the cop were completely out of line. And it's instances like this that cause people sensitive to the topic of recent events with law enforcement only stirred the pot even more.

    What kind of world to we live in when the responsibility to act "appropriately" is placed on a 13 yr old child and not a licensed peace officer? That is the most shocking thing for me when it comes to these kinds of issue. "well the suspect was being rude, so the police had the right...". No, the police officer is a licensed professional who has been trained, carries a firearm, and is legally obligated to not just act according to their training while they enforce the law, but protect and serve their communities. Its absolute nonsense to justify poor to illegal actions by law enforcement because "they acted inappropriately". That is just a pile of horse manure.

    I agree with @Savory Griddles that the kids aren't nessisarily innocent in this. That kid that tried to tackle the cop should have reprocussions coming to him at the very least, but shooting at kids that apparently weren't armed can't be excused.

    I get the situation the cop was in, all by himself, possibly worried someone might get his gun if they rush him again, but that's where you draw your gun, but Don't Shoot! Kids aren't rushing you when you have a gun in hand. Backing up against a wall so he couldn't be surrounded, and pointing his gun should have been enough.

    That said, it's hard to imagine how he didn't miss handle the situation from the start.

    @davriver209 what do you think?

    I agree with all of that. I'm not sure if your response was directed at what I was saying or not. But I agree he acted inappropriately. My point is kids these days seem to get a free pass on any and all things. As a result, they feel emboldened and empowered. It shouldn't be one person or the other needs to act appropriately. They both should. At 13 you have a pretty good idea of what is appropriate or not. At least I did, and my friends did. But now these kids are probably feeling like heroes since thousands of people marched on their behalf when they started the whole thing by trespassing. I mean, what the cop did was bad, but our society's reaction to it is not sending a good message.

    I don't think anyone reacting to the situation is condoning that what the teen's were doing was right.

    But it does not garner that type of reaction from anyone, especially from law enforcement.

    I saw the video. don't know much about the backstory to it. That's the kind of thing where you call the cops that are on duty, and leave the kids alone. It just ain't worth it. But he got himself in that situation, so he probably felt he couldn't back out, but he should've. Heat of the moment thing I guess, really dumb. The issue right now is, did he fire his gun on purpose or on accident. If on accident, he'll probably be suspended a few days without pay, or some other light discipline. If on purpose, expect a heavy suspension w/out pay or termination.

    That's just something where you swallow your pride and just hang back.

    exactly... this is not aimed at anyone at all. I just get so tired of reading; "well the kid was disrespectful", "he should have listened", "he shouldn't have had a record" "did you know he stole a car x number of years ago", "he had a bad attitude" and so on. While all of those things may be very much be true, absolutely 0 of them make it ok to assault or shoot someone. Today I read many folks who thought the officer was justified because of those "punk kids" and its not just tiresome, its scary. Folks think its justified to kill people because they "talk back" to the cops... what the heck is going on....

    World would be so much greater with a simple "please dont walk on my yard and the kids replied with an apology and walks around it"

    I've watched that tackle a dozen times, and it's just as satisfying every time. Excellent work, officer.

    Ghetto cop that is going to get fired... What sucks is you have idiots who do these kinds of things, and makes us all look bad. Are these cops or security guards? I know there are some bad cops, but jesus, that was really stupid... Even if the guy deserved it, you don't do that....
