It's a fact like OX says that he was pretty big his second year (?) with us some key games in the 2000 championship season.

Could the deal have been better? Possibly. Could Mitch have negotiated a better deal? Possibly.

It is what it is at this point. I'll live with it. Don't forget Mitch also got us 2 2nd rounders for the Calderon deal. We're stockpiling some nice assets.

Now, Mr. Silver, give us our lottery pick, please.

I'm no capologist, but didn't we have to take Brewer back for the numbers to work in this trade. In other words, we could not have traded Lou for a 1st and a 2nd because Houston could not just absorb Lou's salary. Correct me if I'm wrong on this.

I remember Jones getting owned by Isaiah Rider in the postseason, and after that I was ok with the move. Solid player, but what mattered was the playoffs. He didn't have enough strength to handle who he had to match up with when he and Kobe were both on the court.

I also don't remember him being that special after he left the Lakers.

    1. Debatable.
    2. Where I disagree with you is that this scenario is also worse than many others that could have transpired. That's all.

Correct when it comes to Houston, who is over the cap. They had to trade a contract like Brewer to make this work.

A team under the cap, like Utah, could have traded only draft pick(s) for Lou. Which is why I favored them as an option. Didn't need to take back a Brewer-type contract and would have created a trade exception for the Lakers.

With Houston, we had to match salary since they weren't under the cap. But we could've taken back something like Nene & McDaniels for Lou, since both those folks have a contract 1 year shorter than Brewer.

And like EE said above, other trading partners could've just absorbed Lou's salary or provided a player with a contract expiring this summer (ie. Ramon Sessions).

So, I'm guessing Utah's best offer was a 2nd round pick. If we are accumulating assets for a big splash trade, then the Houston 1st is MUCH more appealing than any 2nd round pick.

Makes sense, presuming that McDaniels was even made available.

Possibly. This could have very well been the best trade. It just came in below my expectations. A Charlotte trade would've been nice, but maybe it didn't exist.

We probably tried to pry McDaniels and got rebuffed. I'm sure our scouting department and coaching staff are aware of him.

Gonna miss Lou. Reminds me of a killer street baller; just knows how to score the ball a la Iverson.

He's going to kill it in D'Antoni's offense. Good for him and for his next contract. I'll have to try and catch some of the Rockets games, while trying to ignore Harden.

His first full year with Charlotte he averaged 20.1ppg 4.8rpg 4.2apg and led the league with 2.7spg. He was an All-Star, All-defense 2nd team and All-nba 3rd team. 4 seasons after that with Miami he averaged 17.8ppg 4.4rpg 3.2apg 1.4spg and shot 38.1% on threes. 2 decent seasons after that and then he got super old. So he did well post Lakers but never lived up to that massive contract Miami gave him (but certainly earned it way more than Brian Grant).

Would of liked the pick to be slightly higher, but at least we are guaranteed a first round pick this year.

Houston easily win this trade , I'm not objective on the value of draft picks so there is that ...

We can focus on keeping our pick now

Rockets may become one of the most unwatchable teams of all time ( already was for me) with both Harden and Lou on the same team ... 10-12 OKC still has the edge in this department though

I also think Houston easily wins this deal.

I was on board trading Lou and Young. Simply to get more playing time for young players and also improve the tankathon chances. I just think a very low first is below his value, especially with Brewer coming the other way.
