at the very least we can get FA meetings w/o the typical moronic stance of "Its the lakers, they deserve a meeting with such and such"
This is no joke - he has some of the most lucrative clients in the game. He has to have his finger on the pulse in that regard.
big name FA enters a room with luke, magic, and pelinka instead of with mitch and jim buss. that's a night and day difference i like our chances come FA time
Yeah he's been pretty down lately. I couldn't even get a rise out of him by asking whom he'd pick to start a team if he had to .... Gump or Wes Johnson.
Good hire for GM. CBA knowledge check, Contract negotiator check, Knows Agent Games check, Wheel and Deal check, Working Relationship with GMs and Agents check!
Apparently Pelinka has all of Mitch's strengths and none of his personality flaws. Imagine a GM that is skilled at actually establishing and building personal rapport with players, coaches, other FO personel, and other GMs. We may have hit the jackpot here.
The offseason won't be as dicey for sure... I can see Johnson, Pelinka, Walton and Ryan West getting an audience with Cousins this summer.
Pay close attention to the bolded. I believe it's a good hire. They've had (Magic and Jeanie) had this in place for awhile.
That would be tampering though, doesn't he have one more year, or is it a player option? If it is a player option they'd have to wait until he formally opted out, right?
Agree... I read on one of the posts here about Cousins' agent mentioning that he is not a lock to resign with whom he is traded to. I am not sure if it is this offseason or the next one.
if they can keep the pick, russell, randle, and ingram all make clear progress, and the team as a whole improves on this season, then i wouldn't count out landing cousins especially with magic and pelinka on board
I'm hoping the new management will cross that line. That was one of the main criticisms of Mitch in the recent article. Seemingly, everyone else is tampering.
I have seen too many terrible GMs in the NBA to be ecstatic. I'll have a wait and see approach. I would have prefered Ryan West to be honest. He also always has his dad for a quick advice here and there.
Ryan West will probably be the one doing the "nitty gritty" work of evaluating talent and how that talent fits with Luke's system. From what I understand, he and Jesse Buss are mostly responsible for our draft picks the last few years. Pelinka's job is similar to Bob Meyers in GS. He has good working relationships with players, agents, and GM's around the league, and will use that advantage during negotiations.
