I'm wondering if there's interest in Nick young out there, if we can get a 2nd round pick or a young player that would be great
If the Wizards are interested in Shabazz Muhammad, wondering if we could foist Nick upon them instead - he's no Lou, but he's a solid player.
Young to OKC for Payne/OKC 2nd rd pick? OKC needs more shooting at the wing spot, we could take flyer on a backup PG in payne, he's been terrible so far but looked respectable as a rookie.
Basketball can be odd sometimes, people are always so eager to trade established players for draft picks. For every Clarkson, Nance, and Zu... there are hundreds of players that end up playing in other leagues. Don't see why we should trade Nick for a second round pick, no way that player gets us any of his production. Nick is playing like one of the better shooters in the league right now and if you're going to unload him, send him to a contender for a 1st, don't just get rid of him for a bag of chips. If there isn't a market for him, try and resign him in the summer, otherwise, the chances are we'll just end up drafting an Ebanks, Darius Morris or Ryan Kelly.
I'd also look at Utah. They were very interested in Lou because they need bench scoring. Well he's not Lou but he can score. The same things with Lou apply here with Utah being under the cap enough to absorb the contract outright, thus giving the Lakers a trade exception. Heck, Utah owns 8 draft picks the next 2 drafts (their own 2017 and 2018 1st and 2nd rounders, 2017 1st rounder GSW 2018 1st rounder OKC and two additional 2017 2nd rounders). So Lakers could be a little greedy and try for a 1st rounder or 2 2nd rounders.
I like the thought - a lot, and it works salary-wise. But here's a wrinkle: there's a tiny chance OKC gives up its second rounder to Denver. It's protected 31-35, which isn't likely for OKC, but you never know. I was interested in drafting Payne, and he did have a solid rookie season and a murderously bad second season, but who knows what it's like to be a young guy on at team with Russ - you never touch the ball, can't establish a flow. Very cheap salary, too.
I'd try to see if we can move Young and Calderon for 2nd round picks, for this upcoming draft of future drafts. Those teams that were interested in Lou as a scorer off the bench could be interested in Young right?
I think we've had good luck with second rounders. I also think the second round is becoming much less "hit or miss" than it might have been at one time. There are many quality players - on crazy cheap contracts - from the second round. Nick's probably walking, so I think you get what you can and allow young guys to play (that has to be a consideration with this team at all times). BTW, for each Ebanks, Morris, and Kelly, we've also gotten Nance, Clarkson, and Zubac.
If the Lakers trade Young, it's because they aren't going to try and re-sign him. So it's a simple case of getting something rather than losing him this summer for nothing. The comparison isn't 2nd round pick vs Young. It's 2nd round pick vs nothing. Yes there is just as much odds that the 2nd round pick amounts to nothing but it's still a tradeable asset or a shot at hitting on another player like they did Clarkson/Zu. If the Lakers don't trade Young, then they probably will try and re-sign him - hopefully for a hometown discount.
Actually Nance Jr was a first round pick, #27, I keep forgetting that too. Anthony Brown was the 2nd rounder.
ok...OKC can keep their 2nd, I want Payne so we can keep JC as the off bench scoring person. Payne seems like a better backup PG option then anything we have now.
You're right! Late first vs. early 2nd - not a lot of picks separating them. Only like 5 between Nance and Zu.
what funny too is that during that night most Laker fan were a little upset that we didn't draft Brown with our first pick and larry with our 2nd round pick. Obviously team made the right call. haha
Look - they didn't all pan out. There are a few players whose inability to make it in the NBA really did surprise me - like Crittenton, Brown, and Goudelock.
there is some tweets now or some one stated here from reports Magic and Co sent Lou to Hou per lou and his agents request. I think if this is true, we might have gotten a lesser 1st but it would do wonders for our reps with other agents that we do right for their players
