Thank you. That's basically what I'm saying. This isn't about the Lakers already having too much young talent or that a 2nd round pick is that valuable or any other argument. This is simply: 2nd round pick > Nothing.
I guess I would make a bad GM, because I'd rather have Nick walk for nothing than have to draft and waste time on another 2nd rounder. The only reason I'd want a 2nd round pick is if we planned on flipping it as part of a bigger deal. We don't need to be wasting time on any more college kids, we have like 8 guys under 24 on this roster.
yeah young is definitely in for a big contract after this season he's not staying. if there's something the new regime can learn from past mistakes is that holding onto a player too long and getting nothing in return is not the way to go
You might be right and if that's the case you definitely trade him. As a Lakers fan I hope he stays, but the more I think about it I think Nick will probably leave not because he hasn't enjoyed playing under Luke but he wants a shot at winning while hes got years left on his career.
Well like I said, the 2nd round pick is an asset. It can be used in a trade. It can be used to stash a prospect abroad, who can come over 2 or 3 years from now. It can also be used and pan out like Clarkson/Zubac and could be needed next season if the Lakers do trade multiple pieces for a star and suddenly don't have a ton of guys under 24. But yes, if you'd rather have Nick walk for nothing than get a 2nd round pick, you'd make an awful GM
I certainly wanted Jim gone but to fire everyone right before the trade deadline sucks. I hope Jennie is prepared for s*** hitting the fan. She will no longer have Jim as her scape goat. Now she will have to feel the wrath of unhappy fans when things don't go well. Fans aren't going to be smoothed over by little kids and dogs in Laker gear.
Yeah if I can get a pick for Nick, any pick, I do it. I'd prefer a high 2nd but there's not much chance of that. It sucks he carries such a shaky reputation, because the way he's playing he really should net two 2nd round picks. He's one of the best shooters in the game right now. Korver netted a 1st.
This is where Johnson and Jeanie Buss should properly delegate responsibilities in consideration of each member's core competency. Johnson with Ryan West and Jesse Buss evaluating...Pelinka calculating how to fit the talent financially.
Viewing draft picks as a burden is an important part of what destroyed this team in both the early pre-Shaq years and the injured Kobe years. Gotta make everything count.
Not draft picks, second round draft picks! Alright I get it now, I don't want to deal just to deal, but I guess picks are an asset if they can get you a Nick Young.
