Russell is a slacker...Randle puts in the effort but tends to fall back. If they have to be traded for a stronger willed player(s), than so be it.
They didn't care when B0ron did it. Magic backed him in the media and they didn't care then. I genuinely think some of these kids don't care, have zero true respect for even a great like Magic, only say the right things about him, and then go about their day thinking they already know everything. They seem to only want to play hard when they feel like it, and I don't see Magic changing that, only maybe years of growing up can, maybe.
Johnson's competitive nature is much like 24's... Either you embrace it or find somewhere else to go. If you don't mind losing, get the **** out.
- Magic continues to emphasize player development and working as a community to make them get there. - Magic dodged a question on tanking. Mason asked again and Magic said he's a competitor and wants them competing every single night. - Magic's biggest concern with the roster: too many guys that do the same thing. Wants a variety and versatility to the lineup. Talked about working on that in the summer. Wants starters and bench to play different styles. - Most important lesson he got from Dr. Buss: having a vision for the organization. Says Jeanie is the same way. Magic also says that Dr. Buss was always thinking 2-3 years ahead and made moves based on not just today, but tomorrow. - Magic says he won't make decisions based on today (phew!). - Magic says Dr. Buss was about winning and if you want to be a part of the franchise you got to bring it. - Magic says we're going to take care of our players and treat them like royalty. Going to get back to that. - Magic was the first to create courtside seats and Laker girls (cheerleaders). Wants the Lakers to get back to being the first to create things and move the brand forward.
I'm really getting more and more excited about Rob Pelinka being our next GM. I like how Jeanie said Magic, Luke, and our next GM will be the ones making decisions. Good young talent.... I like it a lot
Watch how easily free agents suddenly come to the Lakers. And watch the youth pick it up and play the way they are supposed to.
- Magic says he's still a Dodgers owner and will be part of it, but won't be doing all the things he used to do. Magic says he's putting the Lakers in front of everything else. He's working every day in the office and all his other enterprises are taking the backseat. - Says he's gotten a few more calls from even more GMs (up to a count of about 7-8). - Magic on analytics: we gotta have it! Got to have an analytics team and mentions PER. He clearly doesn't know much about it, but he says he wants to have every advantage they can provide. Mentions that the eye test is important too. - Mentions the good scouting department and specifically Ryan West.
Are you seriously comparing Colangelo and Magic? And what Sixers fans were upset about Hinke being fired. My good friend is a Sixers fan and that day was a celebration for him. Colangelo had already made those excellent Suns teams, and helped take USA Basketball back to its former glory. I'm excited for change in Laker-Land, but I think we have every right to be cautious about Magic. In his interview right now he stumbled trying to say what PER stands for..
I think it's fair to be nervous, but after that interview I actually feel a lot better. Magic sounded like a fool trying to talk about analytics, but he recognized their importance and said it was going to be vital that they have a great analytics team. One thing about being a good businessperson (really any sort of professional) is admitting what you don't know. I think Magic did a great job of that and I have faith he'll look for good people in that field and empower them to be successful.
Once again, I'm on board with everything he talked about. I'm pleased that we will be taking a new and different direction. Jim's way ran its course and I'm not sad about that. Mitch wasn't in touch with the FA's and it showed. John Black was an unfortunate casualty but I don't have any specific feeling about him either way. He's a PR guy.
Sure Johnson does not know PER but he probably wants to find out what it is about and how to use it to the Lakers' advantage. He is after all a businessman.
Ramona Shelburne says Lou is probably leaving to Washington and that Pelinka is probably the next GM.
