Actually, no, you don't get back to relevance with wild desperate trades for the hell of it to mortgage the future.
No it isn't. Not with the new CBA. You need cheap homegrown talent that can't leave you. Players now risk losing 30 million by leaving their teams. No one is going to do that. Durant's move was the old CBA. This new one is murder on your contract if you are a max player. So unless you think our young kids can be swapped for two legit superstars, moving them just makes us mediocre.
I feel ya. Not sure what I think about all this. Pelinka being brought up as our new GM? It feels a little surreal. Glad they're gone, but the timing and the rumored replacements is scary.
I think if Jeannie started posting pictures of babies in Laker gear, the whole situation would feel a lot more comfortable. We need to be put at ease as grown men and basketball fans. So please post some pictures of babies in purple shirts, Jeannie.
My take: I love Magic. And the players love him too. Never got to know Jim. So that replacement is a win. Mitch will be sorely missed. I'd like to thank him for the championships.
I didn't say sell all the talent. If we can get an established star for Russell or Ingram (thus keeping one), I think that provides us better balance while still providing upside. There are a lot of teams out there who draft high all the time and somehow never get that magic to hit. The OKC or Golden State route works only if you draft extremely, extremely well. I think our odds of recreating that specific model is going to be insanely tough. That's why I'd like an established presence here to help us attract others while also keeping some youngsters who may blossom down the road.
Yes. But the people you attract are going to be the Deng's and Mozgovs of the world: role players that you overpay to leave their team. An actual star or difference maker is not going to be attracted to a team when they are giving up 30 million.
Oh God... Kill it with fire... Everything is terrible... Dousing myself in gasoline... Me, right now:
