Is it just me, or do any of you think that this was timed so that this was LA's only headline for this week? I understand that there are lots of moving pieces in the league right now, but we've seen plenty of trade deadlines come and go. Anyone else think we're standing pat?
I think, in this case, it's father fu..... both to make it gender appropriate-ish and to literally indicate how she continues to f*** her father's legacy. Jim may have made bad choices, but he went to work. He worked for the last 15 years or so. He failed. He may even have been dumb. He never did something that would make Dr. Buss be ashamed.
I'm only surprised at the timing. 2 days before the trade deadline when we're trying to trade Lou for a 1st, and rumored to be going after stars. It's also a little surprising to see this the morning after a "scheduling conflict" supposedly didn't allow Magic and Mitch & Jim to meet yesterday. Magic goes from "advisor" to president in like a week. So many lies in the air.
About damn time. Jim Buss at the helm has been a disaster, as had been predicted by everyone not named Jim Buss. I don't feel sad for Mitch. He made his mark on the team, did some good things, made a lot of money.
I think now it's much more likely we stand pat which is unfortunate. I don't think Lou's value will ever be much higher than it is now.
could be the case. all i've really heard is utah focusing on acquiring lou but the lakers are asking for their 1st rounder in return. not sure if that'll happen regardless of the regime change
Amick insinuating that us missing on Cousins could have been part of the issue... He also said: I am all sorts of confused now on what direction we're going to head in. This makes me more nervous than I was.
This for sure (or if not GM for West then some high ranking position and retained). Plus she better be smart enough to keep Luke's say so at a high level as well. Magic can't take things a different direction than what he signed on for. He has a modern offense and should go on to be a great coach once he has some horses to work with. Oooops .... sorry Jim. Yikes! Wow! Ker Pow!!! BTW ..... did Magic just fire them without even bothering to re-schedule the meeting? I think he wants time to get some deal done. Scared as to who we may lose of the young guys and for whom?
If we're standing pat, don't understand the doom and gloom then. If Magic assumes the role of GM, then I would be worried. But I don't think so, he was named EVP of basketball operations. Flipping Lou for a 1st would be nice, but I think these announcements are made now so that we seem more "stable" by the time the draft and and free agency roll around.
hiring an agent to be the GM could really pay off in the long run. what do we have to lose at this point? although i think ryan west is more than ready to take the job as for cousins, he's a FA after next reason. with magic, luke, and perhaps pelinka or tellum as GM in the room i like our chances. let's be honest, mitch and jim simply could not attract FA's
My respect for Mitch just kicked up even higher for this. The character it took to not do a dumb short-sighted move to save his job is pretty incredible. One last time: Thank you, Mitch!
Judging by all the "what do we have to lose" & "couldn't be worse" phrases in your posts, you have NO IDEA how much worse things could get.
An agent might have the savvy to do the dealings, but does he/she have the knowledge to, I don't know, run a team?
