I thought we would have to wait until the season concluded to see what changes were going to transpire in the offseason; it looks like I am wrong. Listening to Ramona on Mason & Ireland, we're going to know the direction of this franchise before the end of the season.
Kobe in the Front Office would be terrible. Luckily knowing Kobe he would hate it as well. Now Kobe in a developmental role would be perfect, but that closely resembles coaching and Kobe has made it clear numerous times that he isn't going to go that route. Kobe, please just keep working on your stories and proving to the world that you can be dominate in that industry as well.
Magic as an advisor- yes. As a decision maker/GM- no. A good player doesn't mean a good manager/owner. See MJ. Magic still dreaming 80-s showtime bball. It's over. But he could be good at luring stars to LAL. IMHO.
He has a ring for every finger, yes, and that includes the middle one he is waving in Jim’s face. Ouch!
Bill is a little silly for my taste at times, but he is 100% right in this piece. Magic has been a wrecking crew. What started as an eyebrow raising announcement has turned into Jim Buss being dragged through the streets. It's no longer fun, funny, or optimistic, it's downright sad. If Jeanie wants to force her brother out, have the heart to do it in one fell swoop. She said she could and would do it, well then do it already and stop letting Magic beat him up in the press like this.
He's not wrong on a lot of points. If Jim is on the way out, why drag it out, fire him on the all-star break. I disagree with this part though Strike one was having Ding put out that article RIGHT before free agency. Or, it might have been those idiotic "STAY posters for Dwight Howard. This is eithe strike 2 or strike 3. Lakers just got valued at 3 billion dollars, maybe it's strike 3, sell the team for that 3 billion, enjoy the money, and GTFO.
Jeanie and Magic Co. is a disaster waiting to happen. One would think we got no other way to go but up... better brace yourselves and stash some vodka for later.
Jeanie is trash and I have always said I dislike her more than Jim. Jim at least doesn't hurt the Lakers publicly. He is silent and does his job, good or bad.
2014: I'll quit if club doesn't contend 'in 3 or 4 years' 2016: “This was quotes from three or four years ago,” he said. “Those were what the path was supposed to be.” 2012: "Evaluating basketball talent is not too difficult," he told Sports Illustrated many years ago. "If you grabbed 10 fans out of a bar and asked them to rate prospects, their opinions would be pretty much identical to those of the pro scouts." (before hiring his bartender as a scout) 2015: "Magic Johnson going nuts on me?” he says with a laugh. “It’s like, ‘Really, dude? My dad made you a billionaire almost. Really? Where are you coming from?” Considering how much success Magic brought Dr. Buss and that it was JIM who Jerry handed a fortune to, this is the rant of an entitled, spoiled brat. Magic made his money and helped build the Laker empire. Yes he got some business advice in return from Dr Buss and he's always credited him but Buss wouldn't of had Magic around if he didn't bring him success. Jim does realize that everyone knows he was handed his fortune right? Or is he actually that stupid? His tenure with the team is already branded by the worst seasons in our history, firing our successful scouting team and crippling horrid moves in free agency. We still have draft picks owed from Nash and Howard and while we were lucky in the last few drafts, I fail to see how he should be credited for that. I hoped for his success but facts are facts. Jeanie, Magic all say stupid things but Jim is no exception.
