Raptors are definitely going to have their payroll skyrocket if/when they re-sign both Lowry and Ibaka this summer. They have DeRozan, Valanciunas, Carroll and Joseph alone earning about 65 million next season. Luckily for them they have a lot of cheap depth beyond that with Poeltl, Nogueira, Wright, Caboclo, Siakam, Powell and VanVleet earning about 12 to 13 million next season. The perks of rookie contracts. If they were to dump a contract to control their payroll, my guess is Valanciunas is the one to go with Nogueira/Poeltl waiting in the wings.

I hear they're lacking strong leadership in the front office too, so they might want Jim as there executive vice president of basketball operations

I heard they need a voice for the franchise. Someone to stand in front of the camera, make the final call, stuff like that.

He's a free agent this summer and not a great fit.

hypothetically speaking, Gallinari being a free agent this summer makes him a great fit as it entirely wipes off Deng's contract after this season.

Then we're just stuck with cap space again. Remember how well that was working out for us?

No one wants to sign with us. We have to overpay for "stars" like Deng and Moz, how the mighty have fallen.

So you'd rather have Deng than remove 54 million dollars in salary beyond this season?

Cap relief/cap space isn't just about signing outside free agents, which we can all agree has been a bust for the Lakers, but it's also about making trades easier as the Lakers don't have to match salaries, it's also potential to absorb salaries to obtain assets (like with Lin/Calderon) and it's also money that can be used to retain our own free agents. Keep in mind Randle is a FA after next season and Russell/Nance/Zubac are free agents after two seasons. While the Lakers have their bird rights and could match contracts, obviously having Deng's contract completely off the books helps alleviate potential luxury tax concerns.

For me, I'd jump all over trading Deng for any expiring contract. It could be attached to a player who at night turns into an Ogre and terrorizes villages for all I care.

Apparently we have potential new contenders:

    Andre Drummond
    Reggie Jackson

Per Zach Lowe @ ESPN, "Detroit has quietly explored the trade market for each of its franchise centerpieces, according to sources across the league"

Pass on Reggie, he's a black hole on offense that thinks he's Westbrook.
