None of the incumbents will like having to report to Magic for a final say so, but I've heard of worse ideas.

"Working to call the shots, because it only works that way," Johnson told USA Today Sports when asked what he hopes his role will be. "Right now I'm advising. I get that. But at the end of the day, then we all got to come together and somebody's got to say, 'I'm making the final call,' all right? And who's that going to be? So, we'll see what happens." In announcing Johnson's hiring last week, the Lakers described the role Johnson will play as "advising ownership on all business and basketball matters, collaborating with coaches, evaluating and mentoring players, assessing future franchise needs and helping ownership to determine the best path for growth and success." Johnson told USA Today Sports that Jeanie Buss will determine the exact role he'll have with the team. Co-owner Jim Buss is currently the team's executive vice president of basketball operations. He said publicly in 2014 he would step down if the team wasn't a contender within three to four years. "Look, Jim knows where we are, Jeanie knows where we are, as a franchise, and so some decisions have to be made," Johnson said. "I may only be in this role for a short term, I may be here for a long time. We'll just have to wait and see what happens. I can't tell you that right now." The Lakers entered Friday with an 18-37 record. The franchise has endured its three worst seasons ever, posting successive records of 27-55, 21-61 and 17-65 entering this season. Johnson said rebuilding the Lakers won't be an overnight job. "It's going to take time, and we know that," said Johnson, who is an analyst for ESPN's NBA Countdown. "I'm not going to fool nobody, and I don't want the fan base to think, 'Oh, I'm back, so it's going to turn around tomorrow.' It doesn't work like that. You have to make some good decisions, you have to make sure we use the money wisely when we have it for free agents, and then we're going to draft well."
The balls on this guy. Hired as an advisor and he openly admits to working to have the final say (which is the most important person in the room.) I would never go to my boss and say "I'm in charge" or a week after being hired that "I'm working to have the final say." The dysfunction between Jeannie and Jim is causing this and Magic undermining Jim isn't helping. either fire Jim or step back, but I don't think this ends well.
And the truth comes out..... Writing is on the wall for Jim. Just get rid of the entire Buss family please and thank you. Nothing but headaches.
I don't think this is a bad thing if it means that Jim and Mitch are moved into different roles. No I don't want Magic rushing through a rebuild, but he already has said it'll take time and he seems enthusiastic about our young players. I'm not as down on this as most. Magic is a savvy businessman. He wouldn't be attaching himself to this if he didn't believe it could work out in his benefit.
I don't have a problem with what Magic said. That's what he did during his playing days. That's what he does running his own business ventures. So of course he'd like final decision-making responsibilities. He'd be lying if he said he didn't want to, and we'd all know it.
i'm fine with magic calling the shots we've been dealing with jim buss for too long. time to get someone new making the decisions and please, promote ryan west already
He was already promoted this summer. He's now leader of personnel I think? Something like that, whereas before he was one of our scouts or something of that nature.

Which one? Where he says he's gonna work to take over? Right after the nonsense during the week how he is going to be an advisor and he is there to help Jim an Mitch? I didn't think there was a need to clarify what is wrong with that, from my point of view. That's a coup and there will be nothing positive to come out of this. Just another chapter of disarray and poor decision making. The good doctor is probably livid up there... Also, remember, while Magic was a great player, his general basketball related record is less than stellar.
Deep down I think magic would like to own the Lakers. He probably feels like he IS the Lakers. Big egos are kinda like that.
