Anyone know what type of relationship Magic and Mr West have? For all the history of the Lakers, I don't remember anything about these two's dynamic.

Pretty sure West hired and fired Magic as coach. All I remember and not 100% on that.

My heart skipped a beat. Please God, PLEASE bring Jerry back. We just need him pitching the deal to players. Mitch does what he does, Ryan does what he does, Magic does what he does and Jim does whatever he does, hopefully at a bar in Receda with Chaz.

He shouldn't be our GM as it's too much stress. I just want him on board as an advisor or consultant.

One thing is indisputable to me: Jerry is the greatest evaluator of talent I've ever seen. No one does that part better.

Jerry has also been the type of guy to search out new challenges. If he feels like he's done all he can to build Golden State, then it's plausible he's looking for a new challenge. After reading Jerry's book and listening to countless interviews, he's never the kind of guy to be satisfied with what he's accomplished.

You're right to be skeptical, but I think there's at least some reason to believe this report could be accurate.

this would be awesome but I have a feeling he retires, then comes back in some sort of consultant role when ryan (hopefully) gets promoted in the next few years

We already have Johnson for the "advisory" role but that appears to be with player development and consulting on draft choices, assisting in speaking with prospective free agents. If any Jerry West would be assisting his son Ryan? West would think he'd overlap with Johnson's duties nor would he want to hover over Ryan's decision making.

After whatever mishap he had recently, I prefer he retire and ride off into the sunset. If Jerry West does come on board, it would be minimal. Agree that he would be a powerful presence to add and should not be GM.

I can see the writing on the wall. First, Magic comes back as a consultant, then at the end of the season Jeanie fires Jim Buss, and then Jerry West comes back to replace Jim Buss as head of basketball operations. This would be perfect.

I would hope for the dignity and well being of the entire Lakers franchise and fan base that it's not Jeanie having to fire her own brother but rather some other kind of "organizational restructuring" where Jimmy's not destroyed in the press and humiliated. Saves face and contributes if possible in other areas or at least wink wink about the change. He should be smart enough to accept that. Jeanie has recaptured my good will with the bold move of bringing in Magic and Phil now out of the picture, especially after getting Ramona's enlightening behind the scenes look at how much she's been marginalized while having to deal with the hard realities business wise of Jim and Mitch's decisions.

Jerry West is the only retread or looking to the past that I would be excited about and that wouldn't be a step backwards. If he took Jim's job and maybe promoted his son to GM, you wouldn't hear a complaint from me.

If he is retained in some capacity, Jim Buss should be owner or however and act like his father as he did before him. Delegate the duties to those who have the savvy and stay out of the way.

Did I miss you saying you don't like Magic back here to start the ball rolling at all? If not greatest 1A or 1B Laker ever Kobe.....who's most current but starting his own post career empire now, then greatest 1A or 1B Magic who wants to do it .....you aren't down? Just clarifying. From both business and player mentality development aspects.

BTW loved hearing Julius say and love knowing that Kobe is still available and active with his time for him or anyone else that truly seeks him out. Sure Zu with a sky hook here and there is fun but will never benefit the type of player Zu's going to be as much as Kobe Bryant big man back to the basket footwork and moves tutoring would do for him.

Didn't someone say that Mr West hates Randle's game? If so, his first order of business is probably a Randle trade.

I've read this a few times and I'm not sure what you're asking me, my brain isn't processing the phrasing. When it was announced Magic was hired I was very skeptical. My first comment was that I wasn't sure if I liked the move. Magic is the greatest Laker ever to many people, but his basketball opinions aren't exactly genius, they're obvious, so when it was announced he was hired I didn't see how that was moving forward, it felt like once again going to a showtime Laker for help. Jerry West, on the other hand, is proven as a GM and in a high up management role, he's helped build 2 separate franchises into champions.

It was a friend of mine who had an opportunity to sit in the West press box at a Laker/Warrior game up in Oakland. He had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to just talk basketball with Jerry.

Jerry was unimpressed with Julius, citing his thick skull and small hands. Jerry was also noncommittal on D'Angelo (he said he'd be alright) and he thought Clarkson was okay.

I was asking if you weren't down with bringing Magic in and maybe I missed it. Had to start somewhere to right the ship and and who would have been better hypothetically than bringing back Kobe Bryant in that capacity if it were possible. Not possible so here is Magic, virtually equal in the hierarchy of the Lakers pantheon ..... who WANTS to do it and is just as qualified in virtually all the same ways .... business wise and player mentor wise as requested. Just not as slender or absolutely current as Bryant.
