it's ridiculous on both sides but i'm not at all surprised the dems are doing what they are

it'll be interesting to see what happens in the next few years with a few of the liberal leaning judges most likely stepping down

How the hell did Betsy Devos get Sec. of Education?

Of all topics I'm most passionate about, it's education, because it is the root of all of our issues in America. She is so unqualified for this position, it's absolutely absurd that she was even nominated at all.

I agree. No way DeVos should've been confirmed. Hopefully she'll realize she's unqualified and quit, sooner rather than later.

She was by far the worst nominee from Trump and I'm shocked she got in.

I'll have to respectfully disagree with everyone above.

First, there shouldn't even be a Department of Education.

Second, if there is (and it's not going away), it should not be this bloated public school system conglomerate long dominated by failed philosophies and guidelines.

Have you guys seen any recent numbers on the actual education levels of our public school children compared to most other nations? They are not pretty.

Here is one non-conservative source that shows in Math, Science and Reading, the USA public school students don't even crack the global top 20.

    http://www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-...school-students-slide-in-math-reading-science

DeVos' lack of indoctrination and accomplishment in that utterly failed system to ME is no detriment but a good starting point. Is she the best choice available in the entire country? No, FAR from it. But, she is better than anyone Hillary would have appointed to carry on the agenda of the teacher's union.

@TIME I agree with you that our current system is a failure. Dept of Education is ridiculous. Teachers are overworked and underpaid. We spend more per child than any other nation.

But, she proved to be woefully unprepared for basic questions. I'm not laughing at her grizzly bear answer because it was accurate and they didn't give full context, but she doesn't understand so many issues at a basic level. Democrats had every reason to be frustrated with her. If that was a job interview, surely she wouldn't have got the job.

    I love this.

On the same day the Senate confirmed President Trump’s secretary of Education pick by a historically narrow margin, a House Republican introduced legislation to abolish the entire department Betsy DeVos will lead.

Kentucky Rep. Thomas Massie’s bill is only a page long, after merely stating the Department of Education would terminate on Dec. 31, 2018.

Massie believes that policymakers at the state and local levels should be responsible for education policy, instead of a federal agency that’s been in place since 1980.

I don't disagree on the optics of her "job interview" performance. It's obvious to me that Trump is intending to shake up many of these decades long failed institutions. If that is his intent, she is not a bad choice. Will she do well keeping the current education machine running, no, but she will likely be a useful idiot to implement whatever intention Trump has to change the nation's education status quo.

I'm fine with the, if it's broken, let's try something new rhetoric.

But when the "something new" is something that is completely backwards such as Devos, and Scott Priutt for Head of EPA, it's not encouraging.

I would certainly understand if choices like these would push some sort of new Conservative plan meant to fix the system, but I would expect that to come from people with experience. These choices are just not even close to that.

Pruitt is from my state. He's pushed the fracking and we have earthquakes all the time. Some weeks we feel 3 or 4. Prior to fracking we never felt any. And he pushed a law that we can't sue the state or oil companies for any damage to our homes. So, if that's any indication......

Exactly. The most contradictory of all is that he tried to sue the EPA on several occasions for items meant to protect the environment, with some of those suits still on going. So I'm not quite sure how that plays out if he is selected.

Reuters (one of the few mainstream, unbiased news sources) has Trump approval at 50.2%.

Then I flip to other news sources and he should be impeached. The media and Hollywood are loud and angry. Got Pelosi saying she can't work with "Bush" and a congresswoman from California saying Putin attacked "Korea" (Crimea...). Now.Senator Warren has been silenced for no good reason (IMO).

    Sessions confirmed.

Under Armor CEO called Trump an "asset to America." Steph Curry (#1 Under Armor rep) responded, "yeah, he is an asset, if you remove the ET."

At least he was the impetus that finally got Warren to shut up.

She's annoying. Such a hypocrite, whining about unfair pay wages while making 6 figures to teach one class, from a job she lied to get (claiming she is Native American).

Didn't know you can't be rich and advocate for the working class. I guess every single Democrat in Congress should just pack it in and call it a day.

I thought Trump first priority were the Americans?

Didn't know that included building an oil pipeline directly through their water source...

So do pray tell, who's allowed to talk about working class issues?

Keep in mind FDR, who is known as an advocate for the poor, was the wealthiest individual ever to be President. Hypocrisy not found. Sad!
