With the exception of this year, Kobe's TS% has always been above average to great. His 2P% was also over 50% for the first time during that D'Antoni stint.

As was mentioned a page back, MJ was the first to be that good as a shooting guard in the modern era (J was at the cusp imho) so he's revered for it. Kobe has been just as good in his run though. Titles are team efforts, and both guys had strong teams that came through as much as their stars did in the finals. Team titles. Not individual. So Jordan had a higher scoring average. But Kobe's going to score more points. Yes Jordan could have played longer, but Kobe would have scored more per game in his early days if he would have been the undisputed number one option. Woulda coulda. The biggest difference is media perception. Jordan did whatever he wanted on the court because he could do no wrong in everyone's eyes. Kobe was more mindful of media perception, which caused him for better or for worse to tone down his aggressiveness on the court. Last thing is that Jordan played for legacy, and he made a conscious decision to retire on top. Kobe seems to be more Interested in playing as long as he can compete. Perhaps Kob is LESS concerned about image?? Now there's a novel thought. What's funny is that the ESPN attitude towards Kobe is going to shoot them in the foot. They don't know how to give him positive press, and right now he's the only true star in the NBA. LeBron is mired in mediocrity in Cleveland, KD is still coming back from injury, Timmy is still boring, and Curry is just a budding star. The media needs Kobe right now but they don't know how to not bash him.
I would loved to have seen Kobe scoring ability without snaqfu in the early years. Would he have outscored Jordans 37 a game? I think so.

That was aired on ESPN? Those guys are getting fired. He makes a lot of great points though. The competition Kobe has faced is much better than Jordan has faced. Both in terms of individual defenders (on average much more athletic than Jordan's era) and today's more complex defensive structures (think C bag's Tom Thib) allowing for zone defenses. When did MJ get put on such a godly mythical pedestal? Did MJ average 200pts/game and never miss a shot? Reggie's comments are so off based its just absurd.
Well that's where I think the "personal feelings" comes into play here. He hasn't forgotten that embarrassment. And also the fact that he never dealt with Kobe at his best either. He was 40 his last year and Kobe was entering his prime.

Great stuff. Good old fashioned trash talking when the game was still played by men, not a bunch of over sensitive kids and a few man-childs. I miss it. Guys knew how to trash talk back then and have fun with it while being truly competitive, and also how to truly not like each other in some cases and be ok with that too. No media outlets hated on guys for doing so, and nobody cared who was butt-hurt about what.

I have a feeling Kobe will have a good game today playing at home against a Durantless Thunder. I would rather see an efficient 25-35 with some assists thrown in, rather than some 40 point slog where we do not compete. His approach obviously sets a huge shadow over how the rest of the team performs. He is actually overdue for a really good game against the thunder, so here is my bold claim. Efficient Kobe requires no double digit deficits after halftime, where he puts the team and a cape on his back. Price and Lin need to do what they can to contain the fire that is Westbrook.
What a brilliant analogy therealdeal. I keep thinking of that movie "They shoot horses don't they?" with Jane Fonda. Kobe just keep dancing, he can't win, he just keeps competing. All the other people that started with him have dropped out. He is limping, staggering, crippled physically but he continues. Even if he wins he loses. Byron is up there conducting the orchestra and organizing the event. Can you imagine what would have happened to Nash's body if he had been pushed like this?
It bothers me, frustrates/angers/saddens me how Kobe is being used in his 19th season. Whether it's what Byron wants, or what Kobe himself wants, bothers me. Other guys should be creating for him, our PG should be allowed to be the PG and run plays. But no, Kobe is being used the same as he was 10 years ago. Give him the ball, let him dribble and dribble pump fake with guys in his chest and create for himself and get low percentage shots. He rarely takes an "open" shot, and these shots with guys draped all over him are not falling anymore, they're coming up short. I think sirron's "nut punch" thread has a lot of truth to it, Kobe cannot carry a team anymore, and he shouldn't have to, because we aren't going to the playoffs anyway. Our roster isn't great, but when Lin is allowed to run the show and the rest of the guys are asked to step up, they are lately. Our bench is looking a lot better lately with Lin, Young, and Boozer doing pretty well. At this point, letting Kobe do everything isn't helping a thing. We aren't learning who else on this team can be consistent with a consistent role, who else is clutch, who else are keepers here. We know what Kobe brings, it's time to learn what other guys bring. The Kobe era is almost over, and we aren't winning a thing during it. Love Kobe, but we need to start thinking of life after him at least in some small ways. We cannot continue to just give Kobe the ball at the end of close games and say "here, you do something" every single time. Guys need to learn how to run an offense the same way in the first 5 mins and the last 5 mins.
