To answer the question: no we probably could NOT get Rondo and Hibbert.

In fact if we got Rondo, that's the only free agent we're likely to sign.

I have a feeling the Lakers are shopping Hill right now for a first rounder. I think the Lakers could live with a rotation of Davis/Boozer/Sacre, as long as the package is:

Lin + Hou 1st + Hill 1st for Rondo. Would that be sufficient?

What first would we also give up besides Houstons? We can't trade 2016, we gave away 2017, we can't trade 2018. So we'd have to trade 2019 away for Rondo?

Or are you saying flip Hill for a 1st, then use that extra 1st to get Rondo?

We can't trade Hill yet anyway though, we'd have to wait until January 15th. Even if we wait, he can technically veto a trade (although according to Pincus there's a way around that).

All that said, I'd think Lin + Hill (or 1st) + Houston 1st for Rondo is a fair deal. I think if you throw in Nash for Green it makes it even more fair.

Yeah, I was suggesting flipping Hill for a 1st, likely to a playoff team in need of a big. I don't think Hill would veto a trade that would send him to a winning situation, as long as he has a role.

Well he's got a player option next season. If we pick it up, he can't veto the trade. Still have to wait until next month though to get it done.

I think if you can flip him for a 1st you do it and you go get Rondo with two 1sts in the 2015 draft. Sure it sucks giving up those picks, but it's better than letting him get to Dallas and possibly re-signing there. If you can do it without getting Green cool. If you can't, then take Green and deal with him later.

Lin/1st/1st for Rondo seems like a decent offer. Throw in any/all of Kelly, Price, Sacre, Wes, or Ellington. That trade is at least as good as anything Dallas seems to be offering.

I think you mean Hill has a team option, right?

Right that's what I meant. We can pick up the option and force him out if we want to.

Giving up Lin and two firsts would be rough on the rebuild.

It would definitely be, but is that worth having another franchise-level player? I don't know, but I don't want to find out what our team looks like next season if we keep missing on potential big name targets.

Agreed. What it COULD look like is good, but our MO is swing for the f***ing fences. And I don't know that we'll hit anything, so we'll have to cobble something together at the last minute.

Or we have to make sure we get the hit which is apparently what the FO is trying to do right now. It's becoming clear Rondo could end up elsewhere and if he ends up in the right spot, he might not give us another shot in FA.

If Rondo is our guy, we need to move now. Hopefully Mitch understands that because if not, we're looking at the team YOU proposed. The problem with that: no way we even get Durant's attention with that team.

I don't think we come up with a team as good as the one I proposed, honestly. We're not very good at building assets. So I'm in agreement with you. We kinda need Rondo.

    via LakerNation

First shot fired as Nash's expiring + Multiple picks.

Throw Lin in there, take Green, and call it a day.

    Rondo
    Kobe
    Green
    Davis
    Hill

    Not bad honestly.

    Price
    Ellington
    Young
    Boozer/Johnson
    Sacre

Could use a little work, but it'll do.

Rondo went to Dallas...but I'd make a play for Jeff Green otherwise.

Rondo unlikely to be available now. It's time to start the other method of rebuilding. We're not going to get Aldridge or Marc Gasol or Rondo this summer now. Time to move in another direction.

I'm just wondering how much Hill and that Houston pick might fetch in a package. Any thoughts?

I'd be shocked if it doesn't get something solid, but I don't know that there's another player I want for that package anymore. I'd try to flip Hill for a 1st and see what Davis can give you with 30 minutes a game.
