Very nice sour. Lots of funk to go with tart white grapes. This is supposed to be as mind-blowingly delicious as it is elusive. it's a limit-1, stand in line outside the liqueur store type of thing. Unfortunately, it ain't all that. It's a decent imperial stout with really nice coffee and semi-sweet chocolate flavors. KBS vs BCBS is the coke vs pepsi of the elusive stouts. Sorry, theres no contest here. I've had previous years in the past. In fact I had the 2015 a few days ago. This 2016 is special. It's silky smooth and loaded with tons of raspberry truffle flavors despite not being brewed with fruit or chocolate. The finish is soooooo long on the palate. i dont know how they got those flavors. It's special. This is a very interesting beer, as it's a blend of all of their special beers. It's really nice, with dark fruits and bourbon vanilla, but its a just a tad blah after drinking the BCBS.
Went to Yard House over the week and they had this bourbon barrel coffee stout called Avery Tweak on their chalkboard. It's 17.5% intrigued me and I had to try it. It was absolutely delicious. I want more.
Another elusive sour. It's really really nice, but kinda boring. It's like a tart dry oaky champagne.
I love asian style salted plums, which this is supposed to taste like, but it was hard to find those flavors in there. It's plenty tart and the plum saltiness is just too faint. Whoah, tons of coffee, yet sour. Very unique and well done. Not for the faint of heart.
You're tasting some amazing beers, Punk. It's Christmas, so I have a Corsendonk Christmas Ale I'll crack open tonight or tomorrow. Really looking forward to it. It's one of my faves.
Good grief, Charlie Brown. This sucker is sour! I like it though. The kumquat is very present. Nice english style caramel and vanilla barleywine with prominent coconut coming through. It's a little boozy though.
Anyone really "in" to cocktails? I've been equipping my bar at my new crib, and I'm loving learning about them. Tonight I rocked a Susquehanna - 2 oz rye, 1 oz amaretto, bitters.
I've been working on developing my sours palate. I'm starting to really enjoy them. Might need to get over to the Bruery to try that one out.
Sours are quite an acquired taste. Once acquired I really start to crave them. What sours have you enjoyed so far?
Briny Melon Gose and Blood Orange Gose from Anderson Valley, Epic Tart and Juicy...I've had a few others as well. It's hard to remember all of them. Stadium Brewery in Aliso Viejo typically has 2-3 on tap that rotate in and out. Briny Melon is usually always there.
This was one of the first really nice beers I remember having back when I was a beer novice. It's really yummy. It's not barrel aged so it's not super sweet. It's still very bitter and toasty, which is good.
Drinking this right now. It's really good. A little boozy, but really nice coffee and bourbon sweetness.
Was able to have it twice there before they ran out in less than a week, must have been really popular. Having a hard time finding it at a store.
Most of the rare stuff I drink (other than the bruery, which is my bro in laws society membership) comes from a mom n pop liquor store in north Tustin called Bradleys. Are you in OC?
