obviously. How do you not intro the Kingdom to the larger community base? That should have been the basis for renewed hope. It's the same complaint I had with not revealing who was killed when Negan was introduced: you're robbing the story telling.
I finally caught up. This was still watchable, but easily the worst "half" season. Negan steals every scene he's in and that's what they've relied on. There wasn't much progression either in plot or character development. Even the stuff we see with Negan got redundant. And I don't have an issue with slow burning shows with lots of talking. Like some of you have said, this show has always been like that and I've loved it for the most part. It just wasn't that interesting in this season so far. I just don't care about Tara or Heath. An episode with imprisoned Daryl just to teach us that yes, Negan is evil. All these episodes have some interesting elements that might be important going down the line (Dwight's backstory, the community that Tara found, etc) but it all should've been condensed. At this point, the biggest problem with the show is how they have to structure the story unnaturally to fit the two-mini season format, and then they pad it out with filler. With that said, once again they've given us just enough to be excited for the next half of the season. Obviously it felt good to see most of the gang reunited and united in their desire to fight Negan ... but it still feels weird. Like they almost made it seem like the only thing holding them back was Rick not wanting to fight, and now that he's on board everything will be good. The whole point is that Negan and the Saviors are unstoppable. They have way more people and they're ruthless. Nothing has really changed on that end, yet now Rick wants to fight because Negan ... spared Carl/Rosita and killed Spencer who was scheming against Rick? I don't get why that was the moment that makes Rick realize he has to fight back. And what has changed to make him (and us as an audience) believe they have a chance against Negan?
That's exactly why the half-season should have ended with Rick being told about the Kingdom. As of right now he has no idea they exist, so like you said what changed? They're still undermanned aren't they? There's a vague feeling of hope, but no reason behind it. The storytelling aspect since they failed to kill off Glenn/Abraham at the end of the last season has really fallen off. Now it's about preserving the show instead of telling the story.
Yeah, that's true. We all know what's going to happen; all of the different groups are going to come together and kill Negan and some of his people. A bunch of red shirts will die, a couple of B players, but Rick, Carl, Michonne, Darryl, and Carol will all be ok. Negan is like a cartoon character. His methods reek of someone to stupid to have this giant army community.
TWD is back. I honestly have a love hate relationship with this show. Their premiers and finales are great but the in between are usually not good. Hoping it changes this season. Really enjoyed this episode by the way.
I'm going to save up a few eps and watch them all at once. I'm close the point where I'm just watching it because I've invested so much time in it.
I thought this was a good episode. The show has lost its initial flavor though and I'm not sure how they recapture it. The key would be speeding up the middle of the seasons and making things more interesting with higher stakes, but to do that they're going to speed right past the existing material in the comics. In fact, I'm feeling like they're going to jump right past the Savior storyline this season. I'm still enjoying it, but I can see why they're starting to lose viewership. There's just too much good television right now to waste time on slow shows.
I haven't been able to watch the past couple weeks, need to catch up soon. Theres like what, 4 episodes left?
I enjoyed the episode. It's been a while since they actually took out more than one or two walkers. Always fun to watch Mischone swing the katana. It also moved the storyline forward a bit toward the season finale.
My one complaint about the show is that the dead have become too much of an afterthought IMO. I want to see an interesting story arch where the zombies are the main threat, and takes a few episodes to defeat like the new villain they have every 2 seasons. That said, I still like the show. It's slow and brooding at times, but that's just what it is.
Finally caught up and I will agree, that was the best episode in some time. I did enjoy the Eugene episode a bit but man, there were a couple episodes there that were just awful. I am wondering what the finale of the season will be though, are they going to rush things or will that be the first half of the next season.
Finally watched the whole half season. The Rick - deer fakeout death was pathetic, as was that entire episode. I'm all for story and character development, but that sex, foraging montage and their candlelight MRE dinner was cringy. Eugene had a good ep. I love how he still uses the human genome project, black box classified bit. I legit thought Negan was going to kill him, so that was a rare good fakeout. Ben getting killed, even before, but especially was telegraphed more than a Mark Jackson "no look pass." The Garbage Clan, for lack of better name was interesting, and though I know Rick is never in any danger, the gladiator style battle was fun. Darryl reuniting with Carol was touching. We all know Negan, and the most assholeish goon are going to die. A bunch of red shirts for each groups, possibly Sasha or Rosalita as well. Rick is always safe. I think Carl, Michonne, Maggie and Darryl too. Morgan and Carol as a long shot. So really the only question is what happens to innocent Negan followers, what happens to the Garbage Clan and what new threat is going to come that they have to defeat? When Negan dies, it will be the first time that more than one community is established and I hope they are not all just assimilated to Rick's group. Barn's I think the point is that if the town is even somewhat attendant, they're more a nuisance. Even Alexandria was good until some idiot left the gate open. But in season 3, the Governor had it until control with minimal training. When Rick's group had to herd the Walkers away, it was only humans that almost ruined their plans. So, tldr for this part; weapons, numbers, walls, and experience.
Carol is ready to kill again and Morgan has fallen off the peacewagon my interest in the show is picking up quickly
I guess Negan has gone on chill mode, even though Darryl escaped, his no 1 "wife" ran away, and someone tried to kill him and shot his bat. He's chilling back, getting cozy with Eugene. Btw, with everyone eager to kill him, I would crack up if Eugene was the one to kill. Never gonna happen, but I can dream. Oh, and as much as I like last season's finale, the obvious choice was to kill Rosalita, and Negan and the woman who shot Olivia knew that. Olivia still had some use, while Rosalita wasn't helping and has proven dangerous. Fortunate happenstance. Gabriel happens to leave with all their s***, run into a large group that not only doesn't kill him but Rick and co. Then Rick and Michonne stumble on huge cache of food and weapons. Etc etc etc.
