Anyone seeing Dr. Strange tonight? Cause I AM! Looking forward to seeing how they handle the Strange/Mordo relationship. Ejiofor is one of my favorite actors and to see Spoiler if he starts good and goes bad and when it happens...Ejiofor was such a good villain in Serenity.
Saw it and I liked it a lot. I'd say it's within the Top 5 of the MCU even. I'd still put it behind Guardians, Avengers, Cap 2, Cap 3, Iron Man... so maybe 6th but it's right there. Spoiler: Mid-Credit Scene I've heard Thor's appearance there is actually possibly a clip from Thor 3 and that Doc Strange might have a bigger role in that movie than people expect.
Watched it, and it was interesting how they tied it to the marvel universe at the end. I thought it was OK, but many others I would put in front of it.
Really really enjoyed it, with Doctor Strange comes more magic and mysticism into the MCU and that's always fun. Marvel hit it out the park with this one and Civil War this year. Can totally see Strange playing the Iron Man role for the next batch of Avengers. Cumberbatch was a great casting. Also one of the net visual movies I've seen in awhile, I don't know where I'm gonna rank this one though, would have to rewatch some old ones.
The special-effects available today versus 20 years ago is astounding, and make movies like this even possible.
Saw Mister Doctor and loved it. I had a minor quibble or two. Still do NOT get the casting of Tilda Swinton as the Ancient One. Easily the worst casting choice in any Marvel movie so far by far. Did not like the introduction of ethical compromise in her character compared to the comic original. Did not like the emphasis on the love story. But, Cumberbatch was awesome. The Cloak of Levitation was awesome. The depiction of magic was amazing. The mind bending aspect they nailed. It's in my top 5 MCU movies so far.
Solid movie. Really enjoyed myself. I'm just finding myself not caring about the MCU as much anymore in general. I used to watch all of them 2-3 times in the theater, but now? I know I enjoyed it, but after a week I'm having trouble remembering much of it. I think after the second part of Infinity War, I'm probably going to stop going to see every one of them in the theater. There are so many of these things now and they come out so often, it almost feels like I'm watching a real fancy TV episode where it all sort of blends together.
I thought the casting was okay. It was at least half way done for financial reasons. The Chinese/Tibetan relationship is so rough that if Marvel had actually cast an old Tibetan man the Chinese theaters might not have shown the film.
Marvel actually admitted this went into the casting decision. They didn't want to lose out on the Chinese dollars for this movie (and possibly all the movies ahead on their schedule).
So cast another Asian man who is not Tibetan. Yun Fat Chow would have been perfect. Donnie Yen would have been great. Jet Li would work. Even Ken Watanabe would have been amazing. Just not a white woman and least of all Tilda Swinton. It jarred me out of the world more than once. I'm just glad they killed her off.
Then you get into the "oh look at Marvel being racist! They can't tell the difference between a Chinese man and a Tibetan man?" It was a catch-22 so they just decided to go in a completely different direction. It wasn't ideal, but I get it.
The Inhumans is now a tv show which will be co-financed by IMAX. In return IMAX will air the first two episodes of the show next summer, then the show will air fully on ABC in the fall. Interesting concept.
Very interesting with this, will it be connected with the rest of the MCU though. While XMen are the more popular group, the Inhumans are a more intriguing story in my opinion. Will look forward to this.
This is kind of the reverse of what everyone wants to have happen with Game of Thrones. Show then a two hour episode that acts as a movie in the theaters.
As far as I know everything is technically connected. The only outright gaff they had was casting the same actress in two different roles. The connection has of course gotten more and more loose as time has gone on and studio infighting caused big rifts.
I wonder if they are going with the AoS version of Inhumans or the original comics Royal family version with Black Bolt and the others.
