Heh I had 5 people unfriend me without discussion because I celebrated Trumps victory. This is why they lose people like me from their camp.

I was going to post something on Facebook along the lines of, "Let's give Trump a chance and acknowledge that not all of his supporters are racist. We need to take the high road and all come together. If you identify as a progressive as I do, you're right to express your outrage. It's healthy and in many ways it's warranted. But if you want progress, you must direct some of that rage towards how the left failed us during the electoral process too."

... But I feel like even something like that would get me vilified and lose friends.

I've already had friends post things to preemptively attack anything like that:

"If you don't see how Trump is a racist, that means you're privileged and not qualified to talk on these issues"

"If you claim that not all Trump supporters are racist, that's fine, it just means you don't care about me as a person of color"

I don't consider any of those friends that deleted me a loss. Its a little disappointing but I'd much rather not have those people in my life.

I believe preemptively striking someone down before they have a chance is cowardly and hiding behind "your privileged" to be weak buzzwords that are in right now. My family had to wait to get here I think privileged are the people who believed they could skip over us because they are owed to be here. I think privileged is affirmative action (I understand it was in reaction to systemic so-and-so, does not make it better to me) and quotas being filled, getting things as a direct result of race not indirect. I wouldn't crap on a person for believing opposite as I do, I wouldn't unfriend them. But if they found it unfriend worthy, they were never friends to begin with and I consider the loss a positive.

This guy articulated something I've thought for a while. The vast majority of Trump's supporters aren't racist or misogynistic. They are just DESPERATE to have jobs and be heard. Clinton--->Bush---->Obama...that's a quarter century of being ignored by the political elite and the media elite while their jobs and livelihood go overseas or get replaced by technology. Can Trump fix it? Probably not. But they knew that Clinton wouldn't even try.

People are emotional right now, to a lot of people your politics (not anyone here specifically, but in general) are deeply personal and kind of sheds light on who you are morally as a person.

Like for example, I have a couple of lesbian friends on Facebook who plan on getting married in June, that might not happen anymore and they are scared, because it's like, "WTF dude, you are literally preventing me from my happiness, why? WHY?".

That may or may not be true. I don't think Trump is that big on social issues, but his VP surely is. At worse, gay marriage is repealed and at best you'll see an erosion of federal protection to protected classes and a lot of it will be shifted back to the states where they will get **** on by heavy handed right bending local laws/courts if you live anywhere outside of the Northeast area, West Coast, and Hawaii.

Elections have consequences and there will be tons of buyers remorse:

    - National debt will skyrocket because Trump will give tax cuts to his fellow 1%ers and shift the burden on to the poor and middle class
    - Women's health and rights are going backwards about 60 years
    - The promise of work and salvation to the rust belt will go unfulfilled
    - More government surveillance
    - Expect fracking/oil drilling in multiple federal parks/wildlife preserves
    - Federal subsidies on renewable energy like wind and solar will be completely cut.
    - Banking regulations to prevent another 2008, gone.
    - Further incursion by the Russians into Eastern Europe
    - And the Democratic Party still will fail to have an answer in 4 years to any of what just happened

Oh yea and the Wall will not be built, that ones been obvious. It would be absurdly expensive and there is literally no chance Mexico will pay for it. I'm still laughing at the Trump voters who think this will happen. Maintaining the goddamn thing will be far more expensive than just building it. Never mind the fact that the majority of illegals that come inside the U.S. do so on planes using tourist visas. How is a wall going to stop them?

I can't be mad. Me and most of the people I know live in a bubble where we ignore parts of the country that none of us ever want to do anything but fly over. They had a voice, whether you liked it or not.

The actual loss is how far we divided ourselves and how crude every side became in a super uncivilized dragged out disgustingly enjoyable political cycle. Trump is the personification of a world where there's no middle ground -- everything in our lives is one extreme or the other. Everyone yells over each other, no one listens. Everything is an absolute and if you don't agree with it, well, F off. His presidency is a product of the culture we've built for ourselves. It’s on us.

We have four years to take a step back and realize we dropped the ball. The beauty is we had a choice… and if it doesn’t work out, we can choose again. In a way, this is probably the wake up call we deserve on every level. It's a step back, but we'll have another opportunity to take several steps forward if we really try. You have to respect the process.

So yeah, I’m not mad. But I’m pretty embarrassed for now.

You are projecting your opinion onto everyone else. Some of these issues you list would NOT cause buyer's remorse for millions of people. You can't assume everyone in the country thinks the way you think and that all the things you listed are bad because you say they are. Not saying you're wrong on all of them as I tend to agree with a few of them, but I know people disagree with me and I could be wrong.

Well yea, I totally expect those on the right to love the deregulation, but i'm mainly talking to the white male, blue collar worker in Ohio and the rest of the rust belt who traditionally vote Democrat, but basically propelled Trump to the White House. They weren't necessarily down with the rest of his agenda, but decided to burn down the house because they were rightfully pissed about having no jobs. They're just going to be in for a rude awakening when they find out they've been duped and their jobs are never ever coming back and everything else they did dislike about him will come to fruition.

If you have an hour and want to see this election from many different sides at a mature level, watch this.

My personal opinion is I agree with Michael Moore (first time I've ever said that).

Click on READ FULL ARTICLE and then watch the MSNBC Morning Joe video at the bottom. If you're reading this, I know you'll enjoy the video.

If you think Trump was elected because of racism this video is for you.

What I think is really interesting is that both parties are about to be ripped in two as platform issues have long been abandoned and there have been drastic changes across the board. For instance on the right you have social conservatives, fiscal conservatives, compassionate conservatives(aka spend that cash), small government conservatives, libertarian leaning conservatives etc. Some groups share values, but others are on opposite ends of the spectrum. You might have a social conservative who desires a gay marriage ban, who is sitting next to a fiscal conservative who couldn't care less about gay marriage, but wants weed legalized. The Dems are in the same boat with progressives and moderates having very different views. And many liberal learning minorities who are shaky over social issues and abortions. Trump winning has the potential to see a major shake up on both sides. I personally hope it all falls apart and new parties develop out of splits....

A few of these are just assumptions.

Another couple are true of all government so using it as a weapon against Trump is sort of the easy way out.

I do agree that fracking will likely increase and the Democratic party will struggle to recover though.

He won't defund it. He's not Paul Ryan. In fact, PP came out saying if they were to support any Republicans, their pick would be Donald Trump.

I think Trump has gone on record saying he doesn't support federal funding of abortions; however as long as PP claims to separate their federal funding money with their private funding money, they can continue doing as they please.

All that said, hey, if GWB didn't defund PP (he defunded their foreign markets, but in actuality INCREASED domestic funding for them), and GWB is widely considered the biggest "threat" to abortion rights, then I don't see PP getting defunded anytime soon. Unless of course Mike Pence takes over, lol.

I got angry when someone got elected once. Then 2 minutes later I realized my life is great and politics never changes and I went about my business. I haven't been angry since. Except watching Luol Deng playing basketball this year.

I was a single issue voter this cycle.

Clinton would have selected SCOTUS justices like Ginsberg.

Trump is looking for justices like Scalia.

I overlooked a lot to gain that difference.

The problem isn't about Donald Trump, it's the rhetoric that he brings.

In the first few days of his election, I've already read about countless incidents of racism and discrimination nationally and in my own town of Simi Valley, including one against my own brother.

So when people say, "stop getting angry", it's not unjustified anger. This is what we're dealing with TODAY, in 2016, people feel that since Donald Trump was elected, they have a free pass to discriminate?

I don't think so. I'm not out protesting, breaking things, and screaming on facebook, but I'm also more levelheaded than others, but you can only imagine how those others are feeling.

I was about to post exactly this. People are getting PHYSICALLY attacked by people. The best is the protests destroying property...these are in blue states which means the property being destroyed likely belongs to Hillary voters. Did people march and destroy stuff when Obama won?
