We do not need to see 15 more games of Ronnie Price starting to know he doesn't belong in that lineup. We already saw him start earlier this year and it didn't work. Just switch back out Ronnie for Lin and we're good to go.

Do you think Lin plays better when he's on the floor with Kobe or leading the second unit? I only saw the second half of last night's game and I guess I 'd agree that a bit more time is required for the guys to play together. I initially liked the move of bringing Booz and Lin off the bench. Maybe Price shouldn't start but I' m not crazy about Lin starting either because he seems to lack confidence or decisiveness when on the floor w/ Kob.

^ Precisely. Price isn't the answer, but neither is Lin. Hopefully this move makes Lin more comfortable on the floor instead of further hurting his confidence. it's not that Price is a better starter, it's that we need Lin to be more productive and he's clearly scared to do that with Kobe on the floor.

Either way, we're in tank mode so we're not trying to win.

We don't have a magic bullet. Our team is what it is this season. Changing the starting lineup or moving a few pieces around isn't going to make much of a difference even though playing Davis more is about the best we can do.

I'd love Clarkson to play more, but realistically, coaches don't play rookies much unless it's a projected franchise player or future star. The only thing Byron is really screwing up on IMO is Kobe's minutes.

To me, it's not entirely about Lin vs Price. After that 25 FG% first quarter, I'd much rather have Lin than Price. Or, start Ellington. We just need some offensive production out of that lineup because Kobe can't do it all. It was really, really ugly to watch the game. "Give Kobe the ball. Stand in my spot. Watch Kobe shoot." No movement off the ball. No desire to move. No thinking involved at all with the exception of Ed Davis.

We also need better spacing. Even if Kobe starts out hot and we do well in that first quarter, he'll burn out more quickly by the time the 4th quarter comes around because he's literally doing everything. I don't understand what's so hard about finding a balance. Is Byron stupid? Now, only Kobe can shoot or create in the starting lineup while our bench consists of Lin, Ellington, Young, and Boozer (aka all the shooters and playmakers are on the bench).

I also never liked coaches that kept emphasizing one side of the ball. In order to win, you need to play on both ends of the ball.

That's the thing. This team just doesn't have much talent. No amount of coaching can fix that. I do think Byron deserves some criticism but the problem with this team is less about coaching and more about talent. Even if completely healthy, the talent level is marginal and with the injuries we could be the least talented team in the league. There is no getting around that.

^ what side of the ball are we focused at? Seriously, i would love to know. We look like a bunch of headless chickens with no plan WHATSOEVER. Im not an expert though, Byron probably knows what he's doing. Right?

Hypothetically, even with a more talented roster, I'm convinced that Byron isn't even an 'average' coach. I can't wait until we get some impact players on this squad and see how Byron's coach really stacks up.... He's a placeholder. Nothing more...

No, you're right. You're not the only one to feel this way...unfortunately, 2-3 more seasons of this. Get used to it.

I don't get it. We're here bashing Byron for making poor decisions, but isn't he trying to lose? I mean all of this talk and blustering about wins and tradition, it's clear by his decision making and the roster given to him that we're trying to lose games. We want that pick back.

The only thing I want from him is to severely cut down Kobe's minutes. That's it really. If we're tanking, I'm alright with it, just don't hurt Kobe again in the process. Heck Kobe "I'm going down with the Titanic" clearly knows we're tanking, so don't kill him. Save him for after this next summer when we're auditioning for Durant.

Is Byron trying to lose though? I don't really see that. If he were trying to lose, would he be playing Kobe 35+ mpg? Wouldn't he play our rookie in Clarkson more so that he can develop while losing? To me, Byron just seems incompetent. I wasn't a fan of the hire, but now, I'm just starting to dislike him more and more.

I respect your views, Real. However, on the subject of Byron, I can't agree. Not only his decisions, but his schemes, his inflexibility to make adjustments quicker, rotations during some games had me baffled...I'm not going through the list of one by one or each game; this is just how I feel. As for him losing games, then can he do it with Kobe playing 30 minutes, then? Or if he is trying to lose can he play Clarkson more and develop the rookie since we're not competing than anything more than a top 5 pick? I like Byron the person, but I don't like Byron the head coach...

Every day,” Boozer said. “In Chicago with Thibs, we drilled our defensive rotation every day. Every day. In the morning at shootaround, practice day – it’d obviously be a lot longer on the practice day. But every day, we drilled it to make sure we know where we were supposed to be at, what we were going to do.”

    And in Los Angeles?

“We talk about it a lot,” Boozer said.

This is a team with defensive woes everyone – from old-school holdouts to advanced-stats aficionados – can appreciate. The Lakers rank last in points allowed per 100 possessions (115.2) and points allowed per game (110.9). No team has hit that double whammy since the 2005-06 Seattle SuperSonics.

By allowing 115.2 points per 100 possessions, the Lakers are on pace to set the all-time record for worst defensive rating. The highest mark for a full season is 114.7 – done by the 2008-09 Kings, 1992-93 Mavericks and 1990-91 Nuggets.

Jordan Hill might be the best defender among the Lakers’ regular starters. The center has a real skill for defending inside and out, and his mobility allows him to spend time on the perimeter without it being a liability in itself. However, that has left Boozer to protect the rim, a responsibility he simply cannot handle. Boozer has blocked only one shot all season. One! (Sorry, Blake Griffin, you’re Boozer’s lone victim.)

Unhappy with his players, Scott benched Boozer and Lin yesterday, moving Davis and Ronnie Price – a 31-year-old who played solid defense in his younger days but can no longer keep up like he once did (though his shoe sometimes can) – into the starting lineup.

The result? The Pelicans scoring 104 points, the 16th time in 21 games the Lakers have allowed more points per possession than the league average. Heck, the Lakers have allowed more points per possession than the all-time-worst season mark in 10 of their 21 games. They even let Mavericks score 155.6 points per 100 possessions in a game last month, the second-highest single-game mark since at least 1985-96.

Scott can blame his players – Boozer has been a (fair) target – but the Lakers’ upgrading their defensive personnel might not even be enough to solve this issue. In his last coaching job, Scott led the Cavaliers 29th-, 26th- and 27th-best defensive ratings in the league. The next year, Mike Brown helped lift Cleveland to No. 19. There just isn’t much evidence Scott can design and install an effective defense in the modern NBA.

Beyond any concerns about Scott’s lack of understanding of how the game has evolved, there’s the big question about how he delivers his message.

If he is (trying to lose) why not play JC and Ellington?
Cuting down on Kobe's minutes is a MUST (tanking or not).

^^ Agreed with everyone. Tanking or not, Kobe's playing too many minutes, period. Play Ellington and Clarkson more. They have both shown enough promise to deserve it. MIght as well save Kobe's legs and develop these guys.
