Timofey Mozgov Discussion: Shut Down For Season (66)

Liked everything about entire post except last two words. 4 years?

 

I just wish Moz would challenge shots a little better. Doesn't really leave the ground to challenge shots, just relying on his size.

 

I hope to God I am wrong, but I rarely am unfortunately in situations like this.

 

nice dunk on the pick and roll, and a nice attempt on the other (thought he got fouled on that miss). no way hibbert makes those plays, and i think that matters in this offense. i'd like to see him get more active on the defensive boards.

 

I guess we're hoping he's solid enough to challenge Mozgov for the starting spot next year and comes along nicely off the bench this year.

 

Zubac is similar to Moz in what he brings to our team when it comes to PNR defense , both have to back down because of their lack of speed ...

This will be a huge problem against some matchups , we need more versatility in this area

 

My crystal ball says two years at the max before Zu starts if no major time lost due to injury. May challenge next year.

i actually think speed and switchability are overrated these days. san antonio was one of the league's best defenses last year with duncan, aldridge, diaw, and marjanovic as their primary bigs. intelligence, size, and scheme can do wonders. memphis was a great d for years with marc gasol and zbo on the front line.

now, what those teams had in common was very good defenders at two of the the other three spots.

but in short, i don't think every team needs a bunch of nerlens noels on the back line. in fact, that doesn't seem very useful, historically.

 

Goal of 2018 it is then but legitimately.

Don't be shocked if we flip Mozgov plus for Cousins at the deadline doe. Guy would do some damage in this system IMO.

We don't have Green/Leonard on the wings though .

We basically don't have the solution to make it harder on players who can shoot off the dribble out of the PNR

Same for Nuggets against DAR .

PS : Marc Gasol is a lot more mobile than he "looks"

 

we don't have them...right now. ingram might get there, and maybe clarkson keeps making strides. dlo may actually be an above average pg defender already. the lakers' problem on d is iq-related, imo. mozgov will help some there, but randle's still a step behind the action at almost all times on defense, and the young guards still miss a beat here and there, too.

anyway, i think my point stands: the best defenses generally aren't employing speedy high flyers on the back line. without looking, i'd bet most sport at least two good defenders among the 1/2/3 spots, though.

and i'm pretty sure no one would confuse marc gasol for an athlete, and if you won't grant that point, then i'll use last year's version of tim duncan or andrew bogut as similar examples of defensive anchors who are rather slow and ground-bound. big, strong, smart.
