Let me ask you, can you have too many good mentors or good locker room guys on a team?

Because I believe you can't have enough of those kinds of guys. They're all good dudes and the variety of opinions from Deng, Calderon, Metta, etc can only help in how they believe a professional player needs to act.

Can you have too many assistant coaches LOL?

I guess what we lack in quality we are making up for in quantity?

I'm fine with having players that are mentors on this roster because we aren't winning anything anyway, so developing the youth is the most important part, not not mentors like MWP that are done. Love the guy, but I agree we need to be using a roster spot he would take up on actual talent. Like Barns said, we have Deng and Calderon as mentors, and both can still actually play. MWP is good for the locker room, he's good for teaching the young guys how to play hard and defense and such, but he could do that as an assistant coach.

true, but it's not as if a player can't have serious talent and not be a good locker room guy.

Metta is by no means a serious talent, but my point is those things aren't mutually exclusive. I agree with Weezy that we aren't winning a ton of games this year anyway. Instead, we're focusing on development and playing the right way under Luke's vision. I'm fine with having another mentor come in for the next year. It's not always going to be like this, but growing the foundation this is what works.

I think people make to much of this mentoring stuff.....if youre immature and a d****** not much gona change, i.e. young. We dont need a 1 to 1 mentor ratio, 2-3 is plenty. Saying you can never have enough mentor doesnt work when we've been as terrible as we have been

Yes, when we already have a full roster. I love MWP, but he's past done. Why not hire him as some kind of specialist coach? Is he really going to be able to make any impact in a game, or is his impact in the locker room and practice, where he can do nearly the same thing as a coach, and allow a younger player, that could use the experience the chance to play?

I was always for Metta being one of our defensive coaches etc. but I don't see him playing another NBA game. If this is done so he can make Ingram's life in practice difficult, fine.

Metta said he could still average 20. You guys just need to give him a chance.

this might have been said, but i think this is only about having a guy who plays his heart out and thinks the game for training camp/preseason. good example for the youngsters. i'm sure he knows he'll be cut--i'm guessing it's been communicated to him already. this is to show guys how to make it in the league. dudes like russell need to see mwp, imo. man, i hate to put it this way, but the dude made his name on grit and determination. russell, especially, needs to see a lot of this. can't hurt for ingram to see deng and mwp go about business on the court, either.
