I would believe the defense will round into form fairly soon. The secondary is new. Smith being a big corner was torched by Cooks who was too fast and too quick for him. Heeney is new at the middle linebacker spot plus we have three new players on the D-Line with Ward, Latham and Calhoun. The main concern at the moment is the offensive line with one starter and a backup dealing with injuries... Raider related... Mack was on the SNF promo. The last one I recall who was on it Darren McFadden.
Starting Carr over Luck in my fantasy team. I like the matchip with Carr against an Atlanta defense that got torched by Winston. By the way, Raider fans, I said last year that Carr would be a star at the QB position, and he is becoming one right before our very eyes. Sent from my SM-G925T using Tapatalk
The game is at home which is even more favorable for us. The Raider defense which got their a***s handed to them by Brees will look to bounce back with a better showing giving our offense more opportunities. I like our young new backs Washington and Richard. I agree with you that Carr is moving up in the ranks. My only nit with Carr is that he at times gets "happy" feet in the pocket and tends to throw out of balance when he feels pressure. Those tendencies have led to him throwing game turning pick sixes last season. I also would like to see him learn to slide.
Two notable Raiders in the 2017 Hall of Fame list of nominees... G Steve Wisniewski Head Coach Tom Flores Still no WR Cliff Branch who was on three Super Bowl winning teams? No Lester Hayes?
Just a quick update on those post-Gannon numbers I keep. Since Gannon's last season, here are Carr's ranks among all Raiders QBs: Games: 1st (33) Starts: 1st (33) Wins: T-1st (11) Losses: 1st (22) Completions: 1st (722) Attempts: 1st (1210) Yards: 1st (7576) TDs: 1st (54) Impact: 1st (20.3) Top Impact Ratings by Raiders (since Gannon's last season): Carr 20.3 Campbell 13.3 Gannon 4.6 (his last season) Flynn 3.9 Palmer 0.0 I think it's now uncontroversial that Carr is the best Raiders QB since Gannon.
Do any of you have some website or links I could use to watch the game today. I've become real fascinated with this team and after last weeks incredible finish I would love to be able to watch them again. Thank you!
Terrible defense through two games. 1100 yards and 70-ish points? Where is Khalil Mack? Where is the secondary?
Agree. Mack has been quiet as opponents are really accounting for him. There is no interior push either. The run defense has been so-so. Heeney has looked lost. Sean Smith has been ineffective. Del Rio has been frustrated to the point of calling the defensive alignments himself. If the play isn't cleaned up by at least Game 4, we have problems as the AFC West is a tough division not to mention the conference itself. Denver has yet to hit the road. Kansas City is off to a slow start and San Diego is a work in progress. We play the Titans this weekend. Denver plays at Cincy. Chiefs at Jets and San Diego is at Indy. Picking Bengals, Chiefs and Colts there. Raiders pull out one...everybody is at 2-1. Tennessee is no gimme however. Raider offense is NOT a problem...
Raiders should be thankful for a somewhat healthy personnel...[knock on wood]. Bolts just lost Woodhead for the season. He is Rivers' security blanket on check-downs.
Alma mater plays Stanford... Rai_ders play Tennesseee. Sigh, propping myself for a weekend of let-downs. The one would be saving grace is that college team that plays at the Coliseum and for our AFC West rivals to all lose. ...oh at least and go 'Canes! The U, baby!
I think this game is a must-win of sorts for us. We have been on that cusp of being a winning/competing team for a few years but we continue to make the dumb play when we need it most. Game 1 we fought off our stupidity (at times) and pulled out the win. Game 2 we gave that game away especially late. If we lose this game I think the psyche goes back to that losing mentality from the past years. A good win will give these guys a lot of pride and belief that we can and should beat teams. That being said, the Defense is, as you guys have stated, killing us but offensively we haven't put teams away like we should be able to do either. It's frustrating to see us with all the pieces and "right there" only for us to kinda shoot ourselves in the foot. Game 3 is a big game for sure. Not the end of the season but still big.
Offense isn't a problem at this early point but we can't get keep getting into shootouts. It's never a proven recipe for success. I would believe that the crew will be more into it since I agree that it is a key game if we are to establish ourselves and maintain a positive trend.
Denver's #1 ranked D in 2012 surrendered 436+ yards in two of their first five games. Then they didn't surrender more than 6 for the rest of the season, including holding opponents under 366 in the last two games combined. In 2013, they surrendered 2083 yards in the first five games, including 450 and 522. Then they surrendered 50 yards in 8 of their remaining games, finishing #1 again. In 2014, they finished 3rd in yards allowed, but that wasn't until they'd surrendered 1170 yards in the first three games. Then they allowed <250 yards in four of the next six games. I'm not saying we're as good as Denver - we ain't. But it takes time sometimes, especially when you have so many new pieces.
Yes, we do have new players who are playing in a new system. I don't think they will figure it out and learn to play together until after halfway through going by your examples. Hopefully by then we are still in playoff contention...at least for a wild card spot.
And that is my point about the offense. No, I don't think we want to be in shootouts even though I think we can have as potent an offense as any team out there. I do think late in games is money time and we have had some drops, miss chances and penalties on O that could of put the game out of reach or at least made it harder. Atlanta goes up 2 scores because we stall on a drive and they score. We were pushing the ball and should of gotten points. thats what I was talking about in the post above. As for what Trodge posted I do think we have all the tools but not the cohesion yet. When they get on the same page I think it can be a beast (the D).
