Lord of War was definitely in the same vein, but this movie tried to mix humor in with it and for the most part failed. There were parts that were funny, but not enough. There were parts that were supposed to be serious, but failed comedy made it lighter than it should have been.

I loved Turner in Whiplash, but since then I've really lost respect for him.

I liked The Night Before, I thought it was just silly enough, and had just enough heart. I'm also a big JGL fan and thought he was very good in it, as was Mackie, and Rogen was Rogen as usual. My favorite thing about the movie was Michael Shannon though, stole every scene. We aren't far off in grades though, I'd say B-.

I started watching The Night Before and couldn't even finish it. I'm so tired of Rogen and his Rogenness. He ceased to be funny at about This is the End. And even that movie was good in spite of him. He just plays the same character we saw in Knocked Up over and over and over again. He has the range of DeAndre Jordan's outside shooting.

Mackie was good in it and Levitt did alright... Rogen as Sav had mentioned was his usual bellowing self. I did like the Christmas In Hollis karaoke. Yes on Shannon's role...

Gal Gadot as one of the leads in Keeping Up With The Joneses...

Isla Fisher is in it. One of the better comediennes around.

I am so sick of Zach Galifianakis though. Like people got sick of Will Ferrell and Michael Cera a few years ago. I'm sick of his face, and his beard, and his "comedy" style.

It is difficult for comedians to diverge from their style. Adam Sandler hasn't done much of note in years. Same with Ben Stiller and Jim Carrey. Transitioning to other genres is also tough.

The one comedian I felt who has crossed over to different roles with some degree of success is Robin Williams. Good Will Hunting...The Night Listener...Insomnia...are a few that come to mind. A shame that he has passed on.

Agree. The one trick ponies get stale really fast for me. They can get me on 3-4 movies, but you better show me more. Seth Rogen, Will Ferrell, Galifianakis, Cera, Melissa McCarthy...Adam Sandler seemed to have a bit longer of a stay for me, but that's likely because he was introduced to me when I was a teenager where his stupidity was given a longer leash.

What I find interesting though is with those same actors I am now tired of, I still can go back and watch their first couple hits and laugh my butt off. Hangover (pt 1), Superbad, Knocked Up, Billy Madison, Happy Gilmore, Talladega Nights...they are great. But anything I see now with them ticks me off.

I'm a bit over JGL. Was a fan since 3rd Rock, and I think I've seen nearly everything he's done in his career. He has been amazing in some really unknown films - like Manic and Mysterious Skin (even Brick, if you haven't seen it). But he now seems to think he's Dean Martin or something, and I can't stand his singing and politics.

Honestly I'm not loving the look of this even though the subject matter is riveting. Why does he sound weird?

Don't know... I like pretty much all of Oliver Stone's films even if he constantly issues extended versions.
