Suicice Squad was sold out all weekend, so I went to see Ghostbusters last night. One of the worst movies I've ever seen, especially one of the worst big budget, summer blockbusters. Mess of a movie, stunned me that a group this talented could only squeeze out what they did here. Boring/weak story, bad effects, and I laughed maybe a handful of times until the middle of the movie then I was bored out of my mind.
Maybe it's because it's the political season, but I'm starting to think movie critics follow unspoken agendas. I have not seen Ghostbusters, but everyone who I know who has absolutely hated the film. It scored 73% on RT. Meanwhile Suicide Squad scores 26%. For anyone saying critics gave Ghostbusters a good review because of the fear that Social Justice Warriors would call them sexist and misogynistic...I am 100% behind you. And I am starting to believe critics for some reason have an axe to grind with the DCEU. Because these critics are now beholden to their page hits, I honestly think they are reviewing movies with that in mind. "I can give this a 6/10 which is how I feel about the movie, OR I can cleverly lambaste the film and give it a 2/10 and bring out all the haters and fanboys."
I would not be surprised at all if some critics gave Ghostbusters favorable reviews for fear of taking heat for doing otherwise. Heck, even I'm wary about where I give my opinion on the film and even almost felt the need to add "and it had nothing to do with them being women". I thought the trailers looked pretty good, I had no attachment to the original to create a bias, and I went in with no expectations at all, this movie simply sucked. Some jokes fell so flat I felt embarrassed for the cast, like they were trying to squeeze laughs out a scene where there weren't any to be had, and then trying some more. It almost felt like they were looking at the camera at times and begging for laughs, like "please like this..". And maybe it's just me, but the cameos by original cast members felt lame, like they felt they needed all the help they could get from nostalgia. The whole tone of the movie I guess I didn't get either, because the "villain" was a joke, and the sense of urgency in them trying to save the city was not felt, it all felt more silly than I even expected, and not in a fun way. This was the worst movie I've seen in the theater since Project Almanac, I would give it a 2 or 3 out of 10
Great start and build-up...then lapses into a bit of a mess. Maybe if I re-watched it. Not bad but could have been better. C+.
I watched Sausage Party. It's not just a raunchy food/drug comedy, it's also a critique on modern religion and the state of society. I don't mind laughing at that sort of stuff, so I thought it was funny right up until the final scene which I hated. It's hard to recommend to people, but if you like Pineapple Express and Seth Rogen movies then it's probably right up your alley.
I saw it yesterday. I'd say I laughed a decent amount throughout, but I was rolling laughing at the almost final incredibly raunchy sequence, not sure if we're discussing the same one. I loved that it was a critique on religion and society, and that they really slapped you in the face with it to make sure you got that. They make all the hatred we have in the world look pretty silly when they break it down to food aisles, bagels and lavash not wanting to share space, ha. The final scene of the movie, maybe wouldn't have made sense to me if I hadn't already read Seth Rogen's idea for a sequel and why they did that. I'd give the movie a solid B, maybe B-. I also saw Bad Moms. It was decent, didn't laugh a whole lot, but I'd imagine moms with kids would get a lot more out of it than I did, my sister liked it. I wasn't bored at any point, but I mean, Mila Kunis.. I'd give it a C.

Trodgers, I agree on Bad Moms. It'll never win any awards or make a top 10 list for anything, but I laughed throughout the movie. I do think being a parent adds to the humor.
I like the idea. Normal color were mutual picks. Red were the wife's picks. Blue were nephews' picks. Green...I have zero excuse for. Underlined were watched at home. 2015 January (3) Paddington (although it was really good), Taken 3, Blackhat February (2) Kingsman: The Secret Service, Jupiter Ascending March (1) Divergent Series: Insurgent April (1) Furious 7 May (4) Avengers 2, Mad Max, Pitch Perfect 2, San Andreas June (2) Jurassic World, Inside Out July (3) Terminator Genisys, Ant-Man, Mission Impossible August (3) Fantastic Four, The Man from UNCLE, American Ultra September (2) Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, Sicario October (3) The Martian, Pan, The Last Witch Hunter November (3) Spectre, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2, The Peanuts Movie December (3) Star Wars VII…x4, Hateful 8, Joy 2016 January (1) The Revenant, and Star Wars VII…x2 and 2 more times at home February (4) Hail Caesar, Deadpool, Pride Prejudice and Zombies, Eddie the Eagle March (4) London Has Fallen, Zootopia, Midnight Special, Batman vs. Superman April (2) The Jungle Book, The Huntsman 2 May (4) Cap America: Civil War…x2, Angry Birds, Alice Through the Looking Glass, X-Men: Apocalypse June (1) TMNT: Out of the Shadows, Warcraft, ID4 2 July (2) The Legend of Tarzan, Star Trek Beyond August (1) Suicide Squad
I thought it was alright. It just didn't connect with me much. The bad fruit scene was hysterical though. I watched War Dogs this weekend. I'd put it somewhere in the C+/B- range. Not terrible, but Miles Teller was really awful in it and he sort of brings the movie quality down with him. The tone was really muddled as it struggled to be funny and serious at the same time. Probably not worth an expensive movie ticket, but a matinee maybe.
I was really impressed by and enjoyed The Man from Uncle. I was not a fan of the old tv show, so had no expectations. Guy Richie directs, and the movie has a good pace with good leads. I enjoyed the Suicide Squad, I had read there was not going to be a lot of Joker (Him and Dr Doom are my favorite comic villains though good luck getting a decent portrayal of Doom in the rubbish to average fantastic four movies) so was one of the few people who felt like the Joker was there more than I expected. Liked El Diablo story and ultimate form, Will Smith did well with a little help from Walt Frasier's wardrobe. Looking for a Joker and Harley movie now. Would recommend Hail Ceaser (coen bros) and the Nice Guys (Shane Black)
Agreed on Leto. His first scene was great. Hope he sticks around. Nothing about War Dogs appeals to me. Not a fan of either lead. Btw, Nic Cage and Jared Leto did a good similar film: Lord of War? Something like that.
