Still remember him setting the tone early on in these same Olympic workouts or scrimmages diving on the floor for a loose ball. Kobe freaking Bryant diving on the floor. And body checking to the floor his new best brother in arms Pau on a screen Pau had set one of the first plays of the game against Spain.

And choosing to focus on defense first, facilitating, and then scoring as needed. He helped all those guys take their game to another level.

Yep. Kobe had just won the MVP and if he's willing to sacrifice himself, make the right plays, and hustle around on defense then what the f*** is the excuse for these younger guys? It's unfortunate the youngsters on this team didn't get to see THAT version of Kobe.

...the tone was also set in one of the games when 24 shut down Barbosa all over the floor. Prior to him joining the team, it was coming off embarrassing showings. Loss to Greece...that Bronze [?] medal? Bronze medal to the Olympic team is like hanging division championships for the Lakers.

Yup high high praise from the guy that was coaching the program for sometime. Kobe set the tone super early, didn't he jump the chairs to save a ball the first play of the first practice? A guy known for scoring focused on locking down the other team's best wing player, he did an amazing job too. It really pointed at how good he is defensively if he can just use all his energy on that side of the game.

I always say, we wouldn't have won gold without him that Olympics. He took over that game when the offense just looked lost and came up clutch big time. I watch highlights for that game occasionally too, just incredible from Kobe.

Totally agree, and loved it when he did it as well. Everyone knew Kobe and Pau were close, but when playing the game no F**** given. Haha I'm surprised Kobe didn't walk over him.

wish the music wasn't in there but nevertheless... Point Taken

24 will always have bonds with his teammates A.S. [After Shaq]... Ariza, Gasol, Odom, Vujacic, Walton, Fisher, The Shower Intruder...they're all HIS guys.

Most players would be jumping up, celebrating, and smiling.

    Kobe, just stone cold killer.

    :Shh:
That was actually my first ever uniform edit since I saw GIF potential. Couldn't really use the USA jersey so much.

Pretty cool how his performance in that Olympics helped his popularity skyrocket across the world.

Absolutely. That defined Kobe's career too me. I loved that moment. That year he was magnificent; I believe he won the MVP (his only 1). Of course he should have more, but it just sucks that we couldn't win the chip against Boston that year; Kobe could have had a ring and a gold medal in the same year. Ugh.

Would've been the the only other player besides Jordan to win the regular season MVP, a championship, Finals MVP and a Gold medal in the same year. Then that LeBron dude did it in 2012.
