I always thought this signing was alright, but it definitely fits better with Zubac's apparent talent level. I'm not sure the Lakers planned it that way, but it's going to work out that way and I'm happy about it. Zubac will definitely take a couple years before he hits his stride and in the meantime we'll have a very capable starting level Center on our roster.

I think most people will be pleasantly surprised, but what I expect from Mozgov is just decent rim protection and a great pick and roll game. He's not going to win us games single-handedly but he'll give us good minutes when he's on the floor. I have a feeling he'll win a lot of hearts the same way Zubac has.

I'm not expecting a lot from Mozgov. Just solid and consistent production on the boards, rim protection and finishing on rolls with Russell.
Plus is him being able to hit free throws. And theres also the not falling on the floor every 5 steps.

So how slow is Wiki typically in taking care of graffiti like that? Hopefully not long. Don't they have a language filter on Wiki? It's that poop slander again.

It's bulletin board material as well hopefully for Timmy this year with his own personal chip on his shoulder as do have a bunch of our team members and FO looking for some payback. I hope.

Dude's seriously looking soft in his face. He got paid. He's probably spending his off season baking up lots of his favorite cakes.

From Luke's perspective .... why Mozgov

Lakers News: Luke Walton Opens Up on Timofey Mozgov Signing
    By Maximo Gonzales -

    07/16/2016

When the Los Angeles Lakers decided to bring in Luke Walton as their new head coach, he brought with him the vision of an up-tempo, high energy offense with the hopes of entertaining fans, and winning games.

It was for that reason many were surprised to hear the Lakers sign the 7’1, 275-pound Timofey Mozgov to a 4-year, $64 million contract immediately after free agency got underway.

After seeing very little time in this year’s NBA Finals, Mozgov’s mobility has raised questions about his ability to fit with the Lakers’ new-look offense. Head coach Luke Walton joined LA Today with Bill Reiter and Leeann Tweeden on AM 570 to discuss why wanted to sign Mozgov:

“To me, the best way to run is to get stops on defense. And the best way to get stops on defense is to have a big that can anchor that defense down and change shots and block shots, and now we’re out and running.”

Walton was one of the key factors in bringing Mozgov to L.A., as the two talked quite a bit on the phone leading up to the signing. Aside from the obvious defensive presence that Mozgov brings, Walton also feels that he can be a solid contributor on offense as well:

“He also allows us to be able to run half court sets through the post and things of that nature. I was huge on pushing to try to get Mozgov and I’m thrilled that we were able to get that done.”

Despite the NBA slowly developing into a “small-ball” league, there will always be a need for a solid big man. Whether it was Andrew Bogut with the Warriors, Tristan Thompson with the Cavs, or even Steven Adams on the Thunder, the recipe for championship contention consist of having a big on the interior.

Now with the signing of Mozgov, and the drafting of young center Ivica Zubac the Lakers hope to have found their big man of the present and the future.

Not only does he have a plan, but it's got to be very clear what his plan is! Not only is he spelling it out for us, but Mozgov's strengths are clear and fit nearly perfectly within the system we're creating.

I understand not loving the contract (I'd have preferred an option on the last year), but like I figured it's not the worst contract we saw this summer and he still gives us veteran leadership and championship pedigree. I think he'll be valuable, even if it's not the flashiest signing in franchise history.

I guess I'll trust that Luke didn't see much in Ezeli since he saw him in practice every day and all that. I still hate this signing with a passion, but willing to eat crow when Mozgov proves everyone wrong. I would love to be wrong about him but it's frustrating when you see guys that have clearly been better than him take minimum deals (Terrence Jones) or discounted deals.

terrence jones? he got min for a reason. anyway, moz went for roughly the going rate for marginal starting centers this summer. a cynic might say the lakers set that rate, but other teams followed. if healthy, mozgov is a better player than biyombo and mahinmi, who each got more money.

it's a good measuring stick for the new regime, too. luke was obviously in on this, so if you trust him, you should trust the signing. i'm pretty optimistic about it. the knee gave me pause, but i'd hope the FO had that all under control prior to even making the offer. we'll see...

Additionally it wasn't a more common structural issue with the knee which required the surgical procedure. Rather it was for removal of a cyst.

For what it's worth the PT wife said this about the cyst:

Knee cysts are not uncommon, but depending on the type it was there is a chance it is a recurring issue. There's a chance another cyst develops and needs to be removed as well. However, this doesn't necessarily weaken the knee structurally. All the ligaments generally stay intact and useful and there's usually no bone trauma. The cysts are just very painful and once they reach a certain size can inhibit range of motion so it'd be necessary for an athlete to get it removed. Once removed, it'd take some time to recover, but after recovery the athlete shouldn't exhibit any long-term signs of damage.

So there you go. It is possibly chronic (although all we can do is wait and see) but in the vast majority of cases it's not degenerative. There's weird cases when the cyst can affect knee structure, but it's uncommon and you'd think our medical staff would be able to see that in his medical history/physical.

I actually don't care about all the talking this and that...

Show me on the floor...and regardless of Mozgov is good or useful or exactly what Walton wanted...he could have probably been had for 40 million instead of 64 million.
