Minnesota is about to start playing some amazing defense. I expect them to be a 6 or 7 seed and put up a good fight in the 1st round. Dunn is gonna be a stud too (IMO). I hope we're better than they were last year (record wise), but I don't expect to finish with a better record than them.
I think we're a deeper team, but yes they probably project to more wins off the bat as of right now. I mean they won 12 more games than us last season. We'll see. That's why I'm saying if Ingram is as ready as we want him to be. If he's not (which is reasonable) then yeah they're still going to win 6-10 more games than us probably. I also mean in the rebuild process we're right in there where they are. We've got our new coach/culture. We've got our young core. We've got some veterans around to help smooth the transition. We're on the same path they are even if they're a step or two ahead.
Well, and it is interesting too because now New York got pretty good with their roster, so it won't be easier for the Cavs this year it seems.
LMAO...been pining for a decent backup point man, lo and behold. [Singing] Jose, can you see by the court's early light... all the treys that you'll nail off all that double teaming
I'm thrilled that Mitch was indeed in talks for Calderon and pulled it off! Great addition - cheap, one year contract, solid vet PG and big upgrade over Huertas, plus we got at least one second round pick, maybe two depending on who has it right. Excellent move Mitch!
Everyone lining up their projected season record... 10-15 blow outs, 25-30 competitive wire to wires, 15-5 what the...? Translates to 32 wins...standing by my first prediction. Inexperience will cost at least 10 to 15 wins...don't know yet who will be our closer [bet is Russell] and our signings are solid but not game-breakers. Love to be proven wrong.
I have feeling jose could be a valuable asset at trade deadline....think we should retain huertas @ vet min just in case of that trade or injuries
Okay I have a second finally. I was championing this move in the other thread and in a weird way this move helped really ease my concerns about Mitch at least. This, barring a massive RFA offer, was an absolute no brainer to me. Just an absolutely obvious move. We are the perfect candidate to scoop up a veteran from a team in need of dumping, just like we have been for years. An expiring contract too? A position of need too? I mean if Mitch wasn't making this call then something was very wrong. In Calderon do we get a guy who is going to lift this franchise up on his back? Of course not. Heck at this stage in his career he's not a full time starter. What he does do though is organize the offense the same way Huertas did in limited time last year. He's a true PG in that respect. He makes sure everyone is in the right spot doing the right things offensively. He won't be a staunch defender, but he'll be about as effective as Huertas was last season so it's not really an issue. Calderon gives you a tremendous shooter off the bench. I mean truly there are few shooters with as pure a shot as Calderon which will help us space the floor effectively off the pine. He's also an expiring contract. As of right now if we add no other contracts, his expiring 7 million provides us with roughly 37 million which is plenty for a max contract should we need or want one. It really helps with our future flexibility. And on top of that we get one or two 2nd rounders when we have almost no picks to use or trade the next 3 years. That's tremendous value. Great job by Mitch and Jim and I'm excited to see what kind of help Calderon can give us next season.
Love the move. Regardless of what happens with Jim, Mitch has repeatedly proved himself and he deserves to stay. We're really building a culture here. I love it. Guys like Deng, Calderon, Mozgov, even Lou. Great guys to have and will keep the young guns in check and not let them get too silly and distracted. Will also be great in practice. But overall I like the culture we're forming and I think chemistry will be great. Hell down the road we might very well be a model team again.
You want Westbrook, it has to be 40. Then, if you get Westbrook, win total goes to 50 and then Paul George in 2018. Lakers do that, GS is toast.
Finally a signing I don't have a single problem with. I like Deng but not for 4 years, even Mozgov would be a tolerable deal considering our weakened condition but not @ 4 years. Clarkson was high but a byproduct of this market and he may very well end up earning all of that money on the court. Calderon is a great locker room addition and veteran. The money is no problem and it's expiring, all win-win on this one.
Aside from his sweet stroke, Calderon has been proficient at finding open spaces in all the offenses he's played in - especially toward the end of shot clocks. Certain players are adept at bailing out disrupted offensive sets, and Jose is one of those guys. I'm very enthused about the headiness of the veteran leadership we've brought in to educate/set examples for our youth. It should be a much improved season.
Considering Lou will shoot every time he touches the ball, Calderon is a good fit because he will never shoot unless you put a gun near his head.
I'm ready for the season. Let's do this. Thought I'd share an oldie but goodie to get y'all in the mood.
