Said this in the other thread...I wanted Calderon a few years back. Not sure how he played last year, all I know is a lot of Knick fans over here couldn't wait to get rid of him.
I said (in the other thread too ) He's no savior. Not even a little bit. He is however a great shooter, a solid backup PG, an expiring contract, and I'm hoping he comes with a pick or something to sweeten the deal. If there's no pick (at least a 2nd rounder) then this isn't as exciting. Still though he fits precisely into the plan we had of surrounding these young guys with capable veterans.
Nice pickup. Pretty solid off season overall. Well actually just the firing of boron and hiring Luke alone made it a great off season. Any idea what we gave up for Calderon?
We shouldn't have given up anything. If anything they should have given us a 2nd rounder or something since we're helping them sign Wade. Even if we didn't, it's a good deal for us but you'd hope they got something along with Jose.
We needed an upgrade at backup PG and we got one. He's better than what was on the market, better and cheaper than what we would've been able to get. His IQ and shooting will work well within the offense. He's another veteran leader on a very young team. He'll be able to teach Russ and JC a couple savvy tricks to keep in their arsenal when their athleticism fades. Side note, too bad we couldn't have gotten him when we had Pau.
Yeah we probably could. We didn't technically offer him anything, just made him an RFA. If we take back our qualifying offer then he becomes an UFA and is free to sign where he wants. He'd probably fit in down in San Antonio.
True. Just absorbed his salary then. If we didn't get any picks I say it's still good. He's an expiring after this coming season.
