Extermination costs were skyrocketing in OKC Dome. You've seen Harden's beard right?

You are 100% correct on that. That was probably a mistake on their part, but...BUT...it's important to remember that this was before the NBA became the GS-Small Ball League (which coincidentally people forget Miami did first with the Chalmers-Allen-Wade-LBJ-Bosh lineups, but I'm nitpicking here). Centers were still a commodity in that iteration of the NBA, even one like Perk who was clearly a shell of the guy in Boston. Also paying Harden would have left them virtually no room to find another one, while trying to beat out the Dirk/Chandler Mavs, Gasol/ZBO Grizzlies and Gasol/Bynum Lakers for the right to represent the West in the Finals.

The truth is they probably traded him early, since I believe he had 1 year left on his rookie deal (and possibly would have signed an extension to give them 1 extra year, but that's purely conjecture).

While that's true, it's still silly. They lacked the foresight to see Durant/Westbrook/Harden as an unstoppable trio and instead bet their money on a fat loaf who wasn't going to stop Howard, Gasol, Marc, Randolph, etc.

I agree. The only thing that irks me is the hindsight now of "they could've had a Westbrook-Harden-Thabo-Durant-Ibaka Death Lineup!!!!". Nobody knew what a "Death Lineup" was 6 years ago, nor did anyone have the foresight for the last 60+ years to think you could beat great bigs by playing small.

Also, as revgen alluded to....there's a possible chemistry issue. They figured out pretty quick you couldn't play all three at once, not enough ball to go around. They chose Harden to go to the bench, but it could have easily been Russell. Either way, you had 3 guys who all thought they were stars, who would have been paid like stars. Something had to come to a head eventually, I truly believe that.

Ultimately I fall along the lines of Bill Simmons on this: you eventually move one of the three (I would've chosen Westbrook to go), but give it at least 1 if not 2 more years to see if you get a ring out of it and reassess if that happens.

I'm not saying they'd have a Death Lineup or anything, but you don't have to reinvent the wheel to know which player was better and which you should keep.

The only thing that could be the sticking point to me is whether or not Harden was cool with being part of that. If he was like Reggie Jackson and causing trouble, that's one thing but I don't remember hearing about anything like that when the trade first happened.

Dang, has he fallen off that much? The numbers don't indicate that at least, not far off Mozgov numbers.

Another solid deal, I guess these are just positions wet aren't interested in.

Nene isn't awful, just hurt all the time. He's basically just a goon now. Roberts was a good value for a 3rd string guard.

A name that makes some outside sense if the Warriors don't bring him back: Barbosa.

He's up there in age now, but we don't need a backup pg that plays a bunch of minutes anyway, we need one that can give us 15 quality minutes. I wouldn't be opposed to Barbosa at all.

He'd help smooth things over in practice anyway. I figure GS could try to bring him back, but we'll see.

Maybe its just me, but I am actually hoping we don't trade for Westbrook. I want to see what these young players got.

Well I think he could get better compensation for R. Jackson. I am not a fan of Green + 1st round pick for Perkins swap either. And let's not forget he just gave away Bledsoe (sure, he was just drafted rookie, but still). That Harden trade was just epic fail. And recent trade with Orlando (which I like) is just weird shortly before KD's free agency.

His draft history is amazing though...

Probably best offer he got...just another bench warming tour for him, don't see where he'll get any burn with lavine/bazz ahead of him not to mention Dunn possibly getting some burn at the sg spot

You dont know if that bledsoe trade was pre-determined nor do you know how much development he wouldve gotten behind wb, clips had to trade bledsoe as well due to being cp3 backup....ill give you the perkins deal, didn't remember that 1
