That's just realistic. It is what it is.

tough to say after being burned in the dwight situation, but i think you want to at least get a bid in. i'd give up russell, but not anything of great value on top of it.

if boston puts bkn's pick and a player on the table, they can have him. big risk, though; he'd have to assure me that he wants to be here long term.

plus, westbrook probably means the other young guys are traded this year for another allstar. that's a lot of dominoes. with gs loading up like this, maybe it's ok to wait a year and see how the young guys look.

Let's do it! I'm excited to see the young guys come up. I think they fit together remarkably well and we have a chance at something very exciting.

We went from 1989 to 2000 without a title, I think we can handle a rebuild. We have suffered for 3 or 4 years now to get payoffs in JC, Randle, Russ, and Ingram, I'm not trading 2 or 3 of them for a Westbrook rental and potentially starting over if he bolts and not winning while he's here anyway. And IMO he would, we'd have gutted the team for him. If he wants to come here in free agency, great, if not, I'll sit back and watch the kids grow, I knew we weren't winning a title for a long time anyway.

I'm with you, though, man. If Westbrook gave his assurance, he'd be here for the long-haul, I'd make the move. I just can't do it unless he I have that commitment.

yep; remember, dwight never said he'd stay. not at any point in the process. had he said that, the whole situation would have had a different tenor, imo. the FO has to have learned from that. not that you don't try to get a star when they're available, but that you don't take an impending FA unless you know he wants to be there long term.

It's going to be painful. There's going to be criticism all over the place. Trade rumors for D'Angelo, Clarkson. But when we do this the right way it's going to be that much sweeter. We'll have a 10 year window to compete (2018-2028). I'd prefer that now that we actually have young assets with potential.

You guys forget that for a team who just let go of a 20 year legend with 5 championships in the last 16 years (1 ring every 3 years), we're sitting on a stockpile of young potentially transcendental talent. And you're telling me I only have to wait until 2020 to be relevant? Look at the Knicks, look at the Warriors before Steph, look at the Bulls. Watch the Mavs after Dirk. Look at the C Bags between Bird and the Big 3 era. If we only have to wait 10 years to be back in the Finals, I'd call that the "Lakers doing Laker things".

I feel like I'm reliving some of my demons and frustrations:

This is exactly what the league didn't want in the new CBA they signed in 2011. They said they wanted more parity and for Stars to stay with their teams.

I can't help but think back to when Mitch and Jimmy were ahead of the times and traded, not signed, but traded for Chris Paul.

Dan Gilbert let the charge, .........., we all know the story. But I thought of this immediately when Durant choose GSW. I'm not made at Durant or GSW, it just hurts because knowing what kind of team we could have had with Kobe and Paul (best leaders in the game) on the same team.

dallas is sort of having the FA i wanted the lakers to have: barnes/bogut. i think the lakers were wise not to sit and wait--if durant doesn't choose gs, dallas's offseason is catastrophic. still, i will be watching.

Barnes isn't worth that contract, but the Mavs are desperate. So desperate they also helped the Warriors get Durant by trading for Bogut. Nice move, Cuban.

***Sidenote*** This just occurred to me. When Billy Donovan and Kevin Durant to Horford to come to OKC, the reports was that Horford wouldn't commit to OKC, because both DURANT AND WESTBROOK wouldn't commit to signing long-term with the team. If that holds true, Westbrook isn't committing long-term, he's getting moved, IMO.

I believe that was a clincher for Durant to leave. I believe Westbrook was not sure or likely to leave. OKC will not be able to trade Westbrook because Westbrook will more than likely want the freedom to choose. Westbrook would not agree to a trade if it guts the other team and the only way OKC does trade him is if they allow themselves to get fleeced. OKC is in a s*** situation.

Boston doesn't have to gut their team and they have assets; Ainge would gladly take that risk.

He is the closer, but don't think it helps for a second that you have Curry, Klay, Draymond, Andre, and great people in Myers & Kerr.
