I still don't understand why we'd trade Russell and Randle for a 3-month rental of Westbrook, banking that he'd value a 5-year deal over a team with talent or trade assets? He'd probably sign a 1+1 anyway. That won't help our case at all.

You can't sell 30-35 wins, even if that's progress for our 17 win team.

For someone like Westbrook to take a "look at us" it would have to be 40+ wins. For him to seriously consider us, it would have to be 50+ wins. For the next year or two we'll continue to build through the draft and sign decent rotation players. We make our splash in FA in 2018 or 2019.

On Westbrook...I say we stand pat until free agency then reach out to him. I am not comfortable mortgaging our future for someone who might leave after that season. Love Westbrook as a player but not at such a high price early on. He might even think why would he come aboard when two key cogs he would like to lead are gone? Realistically, we are still at least two years away from taking people out imo.

Lets stop coveting OPP. Man. We need to work on ourselves first. That simple.

Why would he consider us at all? Having his Bird Rights is better than having absolutely nothing. Unless you don't care about getting him, which is cool too. If you'd prefer the long rebuild (I'm fine with it considering GS stacked the deck), that's fine. Selling him on a 30-35 win team with nothing but young 20 somethings and very little experienced veterans and almost no shot at at a title during his best years?... That's about as long a shot as you can get. He might politely grant us a meeting, but he wouldn't join this team.

So would I but I would like us not to be impulsive without putting strategy and thought into it thus hurting ourselves in the forseable future...

Well we just disagree then. I see your point, but I just don't see any reason for him to stay in OKC. Yes they'll still be a good team, but imo with him next year after the young guys already having a year of experience and progress under their belt we would be better than OKC would be this season with Westbrook.

Westbrook is also a guy unlike Dwight and DeRozan I definitely think would take on the challenge of being that guy for the Lakers. He'll still get plenty of money here, get to play for the franchise he loved growing up, be that next guy after Kobe, lead a young group of guys to that next level, obviously Luke will also have a year of experience as a head coach and that will only help us.

I'm just a real believer in this young core not saying you aren't because I'm sure you're just as a big a believer as me, but I think they're gonna shine I really do. Players not wanting to play here will only motivate them. They've all been working hard. Playing for an actual coach who will use them right. This is their time. I expect them to make the most of it and even if we don't get Westbrook we probably are a playoff team and a couple of years away from being really, really good anyway.

He wouldn't consider us either way. That's why it's repulsive to even think about throwing away two of our greatest assets to increase our chances by 0.1%

You really think 50 million mean we get zero discussion at the table? I will absolutely disagree with that as would DeRozan, Batum, and especially Conley.

I absolutely disagree and that you can sell 30-35 wins. Westbrook is argurably a top three player in the league. You add that type of talent and you're talking about st least
I disagree. You can sell that the reason being his current situation is probably a seventh or eight seed and with him that is what we're at worst in our first year with Westbrook possibly even better with more improvement for the young guys. Westbrook is a top five player argurably top 3, and MVP candidate. We're at least a 50 win team with him. That's probably better than the Thunder are with him and realistically it's gonna be awhile before anyone else besides the Dubs win anyway. What better place to go then a young team like the Lakers on the rise?

I love the young guys and if we all decide "hey let's just pass on Westbrook because we're not going to compete with GS with or without him, I'll roll with it. Our young guys will be ready to go right as GS starts their trek back down the mountain. We should be competing for our own share of a dynasty around that time if everything goes well for us, but that means years of being okay with missing the playoffs, then barely making the playoffs, then a couple disappointing playoffs, then finally getting through. Westbrook means we skip at least one or two steps.

We'll respectfully disagree on us being players in FA though. I mean things can change in the next couple weeks, but right now I don't see us being a playoff team. Right now I see us as a team where people say "in a few years they'll be really good". Those were the things people were saying about OKC and GS back in 2009/2010 when we were on top of the world. Well it took them a while a couple trades to get to the top. I think we're still getting into that boat right now so convincing someone to sign here is going to be very, very tough.

I think he will go Eastbrook, just to escape Warrior Durant's glare for the immediate future
