OKC and ATL were only looking to move those guys to make space for Horford. I'm sure both guys could have easily been traded, but their teams weren't going to pull the trigger without a commitment from Horford.

pretty sure okc could have moved kanter--they weren't going to without a confirmation from horford. atl never tried to move millsap, but they could have gotten a bunch for him. in a cap climate like this, dumping is easy. when things stabilize, it will become trickier again. that won't be next year, maybe not even the year after.

How do you know that? You don't. It's very possible that nobody wanted Kanter's contract and as much as I like Deng and Mozgov I don't see anyone taking a guy who's still the books for three years and nearly 50 million. That's why it's just not worth it especially for a marginal player.

It's no safer to assume they couldn't move Kanter than it is to believe they could. They were only going to move him if they had a shot at Horford. If there's one thing this FA has taught me, it's that one-trick ponies are going for $16-17m per year. There is no doubt in my mind that someone would have taken Kanter off their hands.

I think both sides realized that Magic can't voice his opinions like he wants to if he's technically part of the Lakers.

Good for Durant. There remains only one player in the NBA who I actively root against, hopefully GSW beats him.

There goes the Western Conference for the foreseeable future.

    Curry/Klay/Durant/Green/Ezeli
    Livingston/Iggy/return of some vet mins

    Effing crazy.

Now the question is: do you try to swing for Westbrook now? If you're the Lakers do you call and offer a package built around D'Angelo Russell?

Why? Wait one year and he comes without giving up anything.

I wait and take my chances in free agency. I think Westrook will want to go through the process and be swooned.

I probably wouldn't, I could see why some people might though, especially with how loaded GSW are now, need as much talent as we can get.

I think it works out perfectly for us, by the time GSW is one the decline, the Lakers will truly be ready for action. However we have to be willing to play the long game. Westbrook is the one player I would LOVE to have, but I don't know if it's worth it giving up much of our assets.

Because a) you don't need D'Angelo if you have Westbrook, b) you can offer much more cash with his Bird Rights (difference between 154 million and 210 million), and c) because what makes us think we can get him FA?

edit- I'm not saying we give away everything or everyone, just something built around D'Angelo who would become redundant.

Too much risk trading for Westbrook. He might leave after one year.
