Touché. But it def increases the chances of keeping him. Frankly, I am not a fan of Wade, and think he and Westbrook would be a tough fit. So forget Wade. Just get Westbrook THIS YEAR if KD bolts OKC. Use the cap space to build around Westbrook, JR, Clarkson, Deng, and Nance (if not traded). [i.e., get shooters and a younger 3-D player].

Flame away. No problem. My main point is simply that I would trade DAR and Ingram this year to get Westbrook on the 1-year rental and roll the dice that he stays (esp with JR and Clarkson sill here and some cap space).

Westbrook is a game-changer more than any other player in this League, other than Bron (when Bron is hitting his jumper).

I mentioned Crabbe awhile ago. Not bad.
    Sessions doesn't sound terrible.
I like Aaron Brooks and Hickson.

Interesting (and somewhat depressing note) the Lakers were at least able to get a couple veterans... The Sixers haven't been able to do that and they're the only ones nearly as bad as we are.

Based on what? Westbrook has been forced to play PG because OKC never had a good SG besides Harden. I think Westbrook would welcome playing with a true point guard like Russell so he can focus more on what he does best which is attack, attack, and attack some more. We don't need Russell seriously? The kid is our future along with Ingram. We absolutely need him. We need both of them to be stars.

So you honestly expect Russell Westbrook to leave OKC to play with Randle, Clarkson, Deng, and Nance Jr? Sorry that ain't happening. He's better off staying in OKC if that's the case because of no Ingram or D'Angelo. Our only hope is Ingram and Russell. Russell needs to build off a solid rookie campaign and Ingram needs to at least have a rookie year like D'Lo did where he had a good year albeit with some ups and downs, but shows flashes of a potential superstar.

i feel like the lakers have two non-distributing pgs already in lou and jc. in other words, i'd probably rather keep my powder dry than pay for sessions or brooks. i'd like a vet floor general type as the third string pg--not sure who's out there that fits that criteria.

i wouldn't mind ray felton, actually. though he's a score-first guy, too, i think he's more of a pure point than sessions or (definitely) brooks. if dallas keeps striking out, they may keep dwill and let felton go.

Anything out there on whether we've contacted Crabbe or not?

Not that I've seen. No news on Crabbe from any team yet, I don't think.

Isn't he restricted? I thought Philly was going to offer him like $50 million or something. Probably old news though...

I hear ya. Again, point is that if we can get Westbrook here THIS YEAR in a trade (because KD leaves OKC), I think we do it - even for DAR and Ingram.

Yes, Crabbe is restricted. There's solid speculation that Portland may not match a large offer sheet after paying Evan Turner $753 billion* for some reason.

Here is what I'm hoping for:

Truly a failed experiment with Mitch/Jimmy heading basketball ops with Jerry Buss on his death bed. It's been a monumental collapse from the heights the good Doc had spoiled us with. And with that its time to clean house and send them out. Just like with our head coach, let's bring in a new fresh face with similar ideas of how the new basketball landscape works...cause clearly Jimmy & Mitch had no idea free agency would shun them the way it did.

That being said, the way these contracts are being written, I feel like the owners have to know something of how the new labor laws will be written up in the new CBA. I'm hoping and expecting that franchises will have an amnesty as a means out of these poorly constructed contracts. Either way, the players and owners will both eat, but there has to be something that everybody knows about in terms of clearing these terrible commitments off the books.

And here I thought Zika was as bad as it could get...now our own cap is infected by Mozzie and Dengue.

Have a happy and safe 4th everybody...I anticipate there's going to be a lot of drunk & self-medicated Laker fans out there.

Sorry, Vash, but I disagree with a lot of what you said.

It's been widely reported that Dr. Buss had taken a step back from day-to-day ops long before his passing. To say that his death was the reason we went on a downturn is revisionist history.

The truth is, Mitch & Jim have been at the reigns for over 10 years. In that time, we've won 2 rings and been to another Finals. They haven't been perfect, but they've drafted well & flipped assets for key contributors like Ariza and of course, Pau.

We had on paper what was thought to be a dream team of sorts with Nash brought in and landing Dwight for Bynum (who never played another NBA minute, by the way). Obviously, bad luck with health caused that to go down the tubes spectacularly, but a championship-level team was built even after the league screwed us out of CP3 in his prime. *gnashes teeth*

The front office hasn't been perfect, and have kinda fallen backwards into a great position of a youthful foundation to rebuild with, and whether that was the plan or not, we've gone from ZERO young talent to quite a full cupboard in just a few short years, all while maintaining some financial flexibility.

Again, I really don't think the perception of a lot of Laker fans who unrealistically expect the Durant's of the world to come to a 17-win team just "cuz we're the Lakers" lines up with reality that our front office has overall done a good job with the hands they've been dealt.

While you're right in that we unfairly criticize Mitch and Jim's overall body of work, I still want them gone next season. They are responsible for the worst times in Laker history. To be fair, I still think Jeanie should go with them and I still think Mitch should move into a Jerry West advisory role, but Mitch and Jim need to go. We need fresh blood to take this rebuild into the next era of Laker basketball.
