That does hurt. I was hoping both would have team options or at least one of them. Good news is we can amnesty one after new CBA is finalized. Still we got two quality veterans so I'm not too upset. We should still have enough money next year to sign Westbrook or another max player.

I would think that, if no team option was a sticking point, then money should have been the compromise. No 4th year team option, ok then, 4 years 50-56 mil. Mozgov shouldn't be making only a little less than Deng. Lol, I can't get over this.

Exactly. The Lakers still got better without question. They added two quality veterans and can still add another. This is the price you have to pay for tanking the last two years. We got the young core, we got two solid pieces to surround them with and possibly another we're fine.

These are two hardworking guys, I'm sure there bodies will be just as effective in year 4 of their contacts. Plus amnesty is an option and trades can happen for if a team needs an expiring contract (on year 4) . Right now we're a team of change in culture that includes our characters. This will speed up the youngings maturity. Great signings imo

Quite frankly, some of this is just bad mismanagement. Looking back, you could have snatched up Bazemore at the $1.1 million dollar QO; you could have snatched up Davis for about an average of $6 million dollars. I understand the Lakers going 'all in' on Carmelo and Lebron and planning their cap space with Durant in 2016, but it backfired. I'm happy with what we did this summer, though. I still think we made improvements.

I've also been thinking long and hard about this, and I hate to say this, I really do. We'll improve next season. We'll probably double our win total. However, it's time for Jim and Mitch to step aside next summer. There's a gentleman by the name of Troy Weaver; this man is OKC's assistant GM. I've watched Presti closely over the years, and I love him and his moves. He gets it done. Top 3 GM, IMO. Promote Jesse and Ryant and hire this man. It's just time.

Luke Walton, Steve Blake and MWP come to mind after seeing these deals have no options.

I'm not even mad at the Mozgov deal, but it's becoming more and more clear to me that there needs to be a change in the FO. You either look for outside talent (Troy Weaver) or expedite Ryan West's role in the organization and promote Jesse.

Being a GM, at least come FA time, is a sales position and herein lies our problem. Mitch has a terrible personality for sales. I like him, but he is a freaking zombie incapable of getting anyone excited about anything. Anyone ever see him crack a smile ffs? Jim commands no respect, not a baller and he's the bumbling spoiled son. Jeanie shouldn't open her mouth near a free agent. This crew is so bad in FA they were bringing in Kobe and his "tough love" pitch to help them out. nvm the Aldridge fiasco. We need an engaging figure in the GM chair like Jerry West was.

It's not even about that too me; I understand out situation, and I'm reasonable. It's just not about this summer; but it's about the body of work that Mitch and Jim have put together the last 3 or so years. I just it's time for a change. Hell, keep Mitch in an advisor role for all I care. There definitely needs to be a change, though, IMO.

I hate to agree, but I do. I love Mitch and am grateful for everything he's done for this franchise, but it's time to move on. Just like we moved on with Kobe same is true for the front office. I'd love to promote Jesse. Done a great job with the scouting department. You know it's kind of like how we desperately needed some youth on the court well we need some fresh faces in the front office.

Find it funny when people use "I think Mitch knows more about managing cap space than you" when trying to defend the Mozgov deal.

Like you mentioned, he has a history of overpaying/giving too many years that we end up regretting. We try to rationalize the deals and praise Mitch for getting players we like. And then towards the end of their contracts we turn around and start hating on the player, instead of Mitch for giving out the deal.

I like Deng, and if this is what we had to pay to get him or risk being left with nobody else on the market to sign, then I'm okay with it. But we will likely end up regretting it in a few years.

And no, "Well there's no problem with signing bad deals because we can just amnesty them or dump the contract" is not a good defense.

It's not meant to be a good defense. It's meant to have an option of getting out of a contract without attaching a draft pick to dump it. For instance, there were two times, we had to dump contracts and attach a pick: Luke Walton and Derrick Fisher. I'm not with trading picks, mortgaging our future, etc. I've watched what Olshey and Presti the last 2 or so years, and quite frankly, they've done a better job than Mitch in this current cap environment. No, they don't have the rings, but they've done a stellar job in smaller markets with cheap owners.

Huh? I know what the amnesty does. I'm talking about how some of your are excusing and defending some of the unpleasant details about these contracts simply because we can eventually amnesty them.

If I marry a crazy chick, thats a poor decision. It doesn't make it better just because I have the option of divorcing her in a few years.

You do understand that with Mitch being done it likely breaks up our scouting department as well. If they do decide to keep Ryan West who is close to Mitch and promote him along with Jesse Buss (assistant GM currently) those guys are no longer doing what they are great at. Finding talent among-st the weeds of college basketball and overseas leagues.
