I don't get the notion Timofey will slow us down. Did Bogut slow down the Dubs? Did Duncan slow down the Spurs? Yes I realize they aren't us, but they have played at a faster pace in recent years albeit they slowed down a bit this year, but even before that he didn't slow the Spurs down.

3 year 36 million would have gotten a bench center with a knee problem. No need to throw 64 million at a scrub center.

Spurs have one of the greatest coaches in sports history. GS has the two best shooters in the NBA. Both factor into fitting those bigs into what they do. We don't even know what we have yet, but it isn't either of those things

Luke talked about how to cater his system to fit his personel. What does that tell you? I'm sure he had some inkling they were going after Mosgov. It may work, it may not work but slowing us down won't be the reason why. When we wanna run, we push the ball and he'll stay back. It's not rocket science.

Scrub bench centers making 12 mil per is a stretch. Mosgov is a scrub. And is 30 years old with a knee problem.

You didn't answer the question. I'm not addressing your claim that Mozgov is a scrub (although that's clearly false). I'm addressing your assertion that we could easily get a bench Center for 3/36 million.

The only player that nearly fits that description so far this summer is Al Jefferson for 3/30 million all guaranteed who is older, slower, plays less defense, has nearly 4 times the mileage on his legs, and can only do one thing fairly effectively at this point in his career.

There has been no other indication that there are plenty of Centers who are a) available for that amount of money and b) want to be here for that amount of money.

So Ox what's your opinion of Walton and Shaw? You're smarter and they're morons for both wanting a "scrub" bench center in Mozgov?

Mozgov even referenced Luke talking about how he would be used. Luke was on board and clearly very involved in this decision. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt.

I don't think we should think a 30-year-old center will suddenly become a more productive player than he has shown to be during his career. At this point you kind of are who you are, and that needs to be good enough.

If he can equal career highs in 25 minutes a night, I will probably be ecstatic.

After reflecting on it, I could have been too harsh. But I think the real letdown here is the failure once again to land an upper echelon or at least near upper echelon player. Timofey Mozgov, while a competent center while healthy, is neither of those things. Sure he fills a roster spot that was open, but the expectations were higher than this. Personally, I think if you don't hit the home run for the C spot (Whiteside, Horford), might as well roll with Tarik Black and Zubat! and either save the money or spend it elsewhere on a better player in a different position. If this move was made two years ago fresh off that impressive performance in the finals by Mozgov, I might feel differently. But since then, this guy has had knee surgery, rushed back from the injury, made it worse, didn't see significant minutes all year...and the minutes he did find did not yield encouraging results. That concern will simply not go away until we see him play no matter how optimistic you try to spin things.

I must have hit my head. I still like the signing. Luke is making the game plan and he likes Mozgov, that alone is good enough for me.

Damn man, you dont gotta slap me in the back of the head like that.

I HATE the price they paid. Had they got him for what I believe would have still been accepted, which was something in the range of a 3 year 36-40 mil, you wouldnt have heard a peep from me.

Everyone online is calming down on the mozgov money due to all the money spent on other role players. I mean Noah is injury proned and he was guaranteed so much money, mozgov isn't guaranteed all 4 year... right?

Then what is with the non stop crap you keep throwing at him with that he stinks to high heaven and is nothing more than a scrub bench warmer? You said your piece about the money like everyone else that thinks it was too much. But if he's healthy he was the 4th best unrestricted FA center available and the others weren't coming. We needed a legit center and Walton and Shaw wanted him specificly. They made sure they got him. He works in the system they want to run.

When healthy, Mozgov is quite far from being a scrub. Hopefully the front office did its due diligence on Tim's health. With the cap increase and more looming, it's pretty clear that upper tier players can have their cake and eat it too -- they want to get paid while playing for rings. We've just got to concentrate on getting better. The upper echelon players will come. Mozgov should improve our game from the middle. How much is yet to be determined. Considering where this team is at in its development, it's really a decent, albeit not exciting, signing.

Agree 100%. Many that are expecting us to look like Golden State are gonna be in for a rude awakening. Quite frankly, I hope we don't. I hope Luke brings his own brand of Laker basketball.
