So you'd sign him for 18, but if he said "Hey, Houston's offering me 20 but I like LA so I'll come if you give me 21"

    You'd say no?

I haven't heard our name mentioned at all today with all these second tier players meeting and agreeing to deals left and right

Um, been busy the last few days with orientation for a new job. Very disappointed to find out we struck out yet again in free agency. So much for looking more appealing. Mozgov? You f***ing kidding me? That's all we could get? Sorry, but this is just another Roy Hibbert-esque signing.

Guess our young guys will have to show something better this year before we can hope to attract established talent.

Q: On how patient he plans to be with the development of his young players:

    Kupchak:
I don’t think there’s a plan in terms of: If it doesn’t work in a year from now, we’re going to break it up; O if we don’t win 36 games or 42 games or 48 games, it’s over. That’s not the plan at all. I think what we’d like to do is put together a group of players that are growing, fun to watch and improve as the season goes along. Clearly (we have) the intent to keep the interest of our supporters, fans, partners, TV, season-seat holders. You do have to win games. That doesn’t mean we have to win 40 or 45 or 50. It may not even mean you have to make the playoffs. I don’t know what it’s going to take to make the playoffs next year. Maybe you got to win 48 games to get into the West and we win 47 — or maybe we win 37. But as long as the team is fun to watch, our fans and our partners can see a team that’s growing and getting better as the season goes along — I think that’s the barometer that’s best for us.

That's Kupchak's response. He also had a similar answer when being interviewed on Colin Cowherd. They're trying to put together a roster, a team that is much more competitive and fun too watch. We can argue players, strategy, philosophy, but the general consensus among the Front Office is very simple: build around your young core, add veteran leadership around them, and create an atmosphere where you're competing every single night.

Well, I don't mean literally split it, I was thinking more like 10 for Meyers (or even try and trade for Hawes), 8 to 10 for a guard, solid role players. And the wins thing, that's my point, neither gets us many more wins if any, so why pay all that money for no added win value? If we aren't making the playoffs then it's a lost year, that's the reality of the Lakers, and until recently it was if we don't win the title it was a lost year. So if we aren't making the playoffs I would rather have multiple solid role players next to our developing youth than 1 big, expensive, injured stiff. We aren't gonna agree, I get that, it's fine.

Is Mozgov that veteran leadership? I find that hard to believe.

We have to build from within. The kids will get better year by year and then we will be more attractive to free agents. It's a strange situation for the Lakers but we have to go through it. I can be patient and at the same time i am looking forward to the summer league.

I don't know if he's a leader; FWIW, Woj was a fan of the move. He is a fan of Mosgov the player and person.

Again.. Shaw coached him in Denver & Luke saw him in the Finals twice.. I'm sure if they thought he was garbage, he would not have been called at 12:01...

I don't care about West. Blazers can offer them a lot of money and according to reports they are to try and get him. They are in a position to pay him and are a better team than us. He's a better fit offensively than Mozgov by far but Pau is much much worst defensively.

I think if there is one positive in the last 17 hours, is the great emoji's and graphics that have spewed from this monstrosity of a free agent period.

So Mozgov is the veteran leadership so it's okay to pay him market value? But going after Bazemore, a relatively young player who has experience, talent, fills a need, and is apparently being sought after by many other teams, would be a bad move because he would take away from our young core (instead of being a part of it)?

Not sure what your post was getting at...
