Well he was whining for her again, like maybe she didn't like the move of firing Byron and hiring Luke in the small window we had ..... because she didn't know about it. That part was current. But well known as well. Bad craft.
Some quick thoughts... I don't if Jeannie was or was not the source, but I didn't really read anything surprising. Jim has been a part of some great Laker teams, however he also makes some bonehead moves and doesn't always seen like he gets it. The Mitch's daughter thing is being overblown a bit. I read it as a clear example of Mitch's ability to "compartmentalize"... I don't see any ill will from Ding or the "source." Should it have been in the article? Meh, maybe not but again, I don't see ill will. Lastly, I don't think this affects our FA at all. Like many have said before, this is all old news.
Yet another article that shows how petty those two siblings can be. The timing on the release of this article also stinks. I thought after all these years Ding was a bit better than that. I suppose everyone has a price. The more I read about those two Buss kids not being on the same page, the more I'm jumping onto the "sell the team already!" bandwagon. We cannot be going thru this kind of dysfunction every freakin' offseason, especially when it comes to Free Agency. Man... this just soured the Luke hired just a bit for me. Just when everything was going well for the first time in a LOOOONG time...
I never said I listened to it or want anyone to listen to that. Why would you do such a thing. Coward's the worst and Ding is in an indefinite timeout at the moment.
Great, now no possibility of a recap since someone would feel r******* for admitting they listened to it lol
All right, here's a recap. Nothing really that insightful. Mainly just rehashing the points of the article. Pretty much confirms that the source is one of the Buss siblings though. If not Jeanie, maybe one of the other Buss kids also has an issue with Jim. My bet's still on Jeanie. Some in the family don't think Jim is passionate about working for the Lakers and making them great. Even Jerry wasn't really sure Jim would work out either, moreso just hopeful. Jerry wanted to continue contending around Kobe, let Jim get some respect by being affiliated with a few more championship runs, and then step down to let someone else take over for the rebuild. Jerry was the glue of the family, really skilled at making everyone feel like they were contributing to the Lakers organization. Jim's personality is not like that, Jeanie's is. How this next year goes down will shape everything. The siblings hope Jim respects his promise of stepping down. Siblings already respected that Jim made the promise in the first place. They're hoping Luke kind of leads the way in terms of pitching to free agents as he's the most charismatic. Jim ultimately made the call to hire Luke so quickly. Most people in the organization are fine with the Luke hire, but based on Jim's history of questionable decisions, they just wish they interviewed others and didn't rush into a decision. Ding thinks Whiteside is our best shot at a big free agent since he's actually interested in business opportunities instead of exclusively winning basketball. D'angelo and Brandon were consensus picks among Jim, Mitch, Scouting Department, etc Why release the article right now? Because free agency is part of the story. Releasing the article now emphasizes the failures of the past few free agencies and reminds people of Jim's promise. Pretty much implying that yes, this article was meant to put pressure on Jim. But then backtracks and says, it was coincidental and the article just happened to get finished up now. Ding thinks it's a positive that the organization is coming to grips with reality, especially if they're willing to move on from Jim.
So basically they confirmed it was a hit piece against Jim. THIS is why some of us find ourselves defending Jim. The guy is not without his faults, but he's not the Buss sibling that goes out of his way to sling mud at the other. Again, this story would have been much more complete if Ding had waited to see how we fared in FA and included that in this piece.
Yeah FA is part of the story... so let's release the story before FA then, because this FA trip will have no bearing on the story whatsoever. This FA period won't make or break the entire point of the story. This was a hit piece against Jim coming directly from Jeanie. The timing was not coincidental and while Ding is a jerk for some of the content, Jeanie is just as bad. These Buss kids are idiots.
They should f***ing sell the team and get the f*** out. Maybe to that guy who owns the baseball team in this city. After a remarkable run and the promise of another, this fan is so sick of this crap... I'd be willing to deal with boring...like the San Antonio management.
I'm glad this question was asked. Not liking the answer though and the fact DIng mentioned it "it just happened to get finished up now"... Yeah, okay
A Father's hope for his son is often supported by unjustifiable expectations. In this case the Son is not like the Father. Ultimately, this may be more of Dr. Buss' fault than Jim's.
So someone in the Buss family (Employed with the Lakers mind you) sabotaged Jim (And the entire Laker brand) from going into the FA period with positive momentum, just so that Jim has to step down??? This article comes out, Whiteside only looking at stable organizations, we can't get a meeting.... You petty f***ing rats. Yes they are rats because no one wants rats. Dan Gilbert is a trash owner and the Buss family is below him to me. AND I HATE DAN GILBERT. They've been fighting for what 3-4 years now? If it's reached the point of sabotaging each other's job performance via media, they can GTFO. Stupid f***ing kids ruining something that was given to them. I don't even want Magic to take over, but I'd take him every day and twice on Sunday to get rid of these rats.
Agreed. Jeanie is a peace of s***. A greedy person. A selfish person. She completely f***ed the Lakers in free agency. Enough is enough. Clean house. It's gotten to the point where we can't even get meetings with free agents I mean really? Teams that have less to offer are getting meetings. It's absolutely absurd and depressing. This can't go on any longer. We need some consistency, some stability, some leadership in the front office. We aren't going anywhere till we get it.
I think the buss kids have simply had an easy life because of there father and simply don't know how to properly run a business. The lakers are worth 3 billion plus, i kind of wish they would just sell the team at this point. They've struck out in FA since there father has died.
