This is going to be fun...

Hopefully we come away with at least one of our early/top targets.

I love Whitesides talent, but is anyone else getting a bit worried by the fact that we have no vets? Who's gonna lead this team off the court?
Im concerned about this young core WITHOUT whiteside the knucklehead. We need a guy thats gonna get on the young dudes on long road trips,
hold them accountable for certain things. An extension of the coach if you will. Someone vocal who plays a bit.

^Plenty of cap space left to add veteran leadership.

Exciting bit of news...At least we now have an idea, however vague, of the FOs plan. It's fun to speculate now but we really need to add a solid veteran leader who can play.I hope Mitch has Conley in his backpocket.

Signing Whiteside doesn't mean you can't sign other vets, it's one signing. We have like 7 or 8 players right now and 50 mil we must spend, over 60 mil we can spend, we will sign some vets. I'll take Whiteside in a second, excellent type of center to plug in with our young core.

I doubt it. I don't think Whiteside cares about who is the better team. He's looking to get paid whoever can offer the most will get Whiteside.

He said he's a businessman who plays basketball. Come to LA, work hard, continue improving, and be a part of this franchise's resurgence. That will net you better business opportunities than any other team could offer.

Last year we probably wouldn't have a real chance at him, or others for the most part. What is great about us this year is not only did we add Ingram and add a young coach who players will like, but we also have room for two max contracts.

This allows us to aggressively pursue talents like Whiteside and others simultaneously. In our pitch to first max player we can offer playing with this other top level player in addition to our young core. It definitely is intriguing and will make us competitive sooner rather later.

Didn't he say he was a businessman not just a basketball player? I mean I know we are going to focus on more basketball talk during meetings, but it probably would help in this case a bit if we brought those off the court opportunties.

miami not being able to offer a 5th year and likely pitching durant is working in the lakers's favor here. i don't know a lot about whiteside personally, but he strikes me as the kind of guy who would think playing in la was pretty cool (the above quote supports this, of course). i'd love to take bread off riley's table, too, because, screw that guy.

i do worry a bit about whiteside's approach, but with his max being on the lower end, i can deal with it. every other signing must be a vet, though. all of them.

Screw GS (let's steal Iggy from them), Durant (i don't even want him) and start signing people. Whiteside would be a great start. Would that signing make our starting 5 the youngest in the NBA (thinking of T-Pups)?
