I agree with Sama, I didn't like any of the old Spider Man movies too much. I don't even remember Spidy 2 standing out to me against the others.
You guys are cold. Give it a watch again. It's a good film. Now is it super comic accurate and all that? Not as much, but it's a great movie in a film sense with character arcs, proper drama, high stakes, etc.
Yeah, I'm sorry I just don't see it. I didn't see it then, and I still don't see it. I am not saying its a horrible film ala any FF movie, only that its a cheesy, goof of a movie that suffers a lot because it dismisses the source material which is beloved for a reason. Rating it above the best MCU movies ( Avengers I &II, GotG, Capt II&III) , any Nolan Batfilm, The Crow, Orginal Supe, Burton Batman, X2/FC, and a couple more just doesn't feel right to me. But I am generally not on the same page as most.
It's all opinions, I'm not telling you you're wrong for thinking that way. I loved that one. I liked the first one too. The real issue with that series is the third movie which is neither fun, funny, or true to the source material.
Those are movies that i think are objectively better. That list doesn't even include comic movies that I simply like more lol... And while we agree to disagree we can certainly agree that Spidey 3 is the worst...and i mean ever...and i mean any comic book movie...
Yeah but we all knew that was going to be terrible from jump. Spidey 3 promised Venom! then delivered Topher Grace and emo spidey... just the worst...
In terms of excitement to disappointment ratio... that could be the worst. Batman vs. Superman is right up there though. Worst all time? I'd say probably Batman and Robin followed by Fant4stic followed by Spidey 3.
Batman and Robin had this going for it, it was so unbearably terrible that it eventually becomes quite comical. Also if you start thinking of Dr. Freeze as the hero of the film its quite tragic... As for BvS, did anyone really think that was going to be any good? The writing was on the wall for months.
Well for three years it was built up as the ultimate DC/WB answer to Marvel's burgeoning universe. It made more than 60% of its money in the first week of release and was critically and commercially tanked. I'd say it's right up there with the let down factor.
Maybe... It really seemed like the wheel came off that a long time ago. There was tremendous blow back over Ben as Batman, over the lego batman inspired batman super suit design, over doomsday, reports from early screenings that it was bad, not many people I knew were ever excited because of Goyers involvement, then finally you have the trailer drop it not only gives the movie away, reveals doomsdays a cave troll, BUT also managed to pretty much bum even the most ardent DC fans I know out. Anyone who walked into that theatre expecting Avengers or even Iron Man was wearing Batblinders, and pounding the DC Kool Aid.
While that's true, it still was a 3 year build up. Now you're right that probably about a year before things started to slowly unravel, but still in that moment when they announced Batman and Superman in a movie together there was just huuuuuuge waves of excitement. When you get Batman and Superman on film for the first time you've got huge expectations. You're right that it unraveled, but it was still absolutely full of hype for a long time. The fact that it was a slow burn disappointment doesn't change how much it failed in my opinion. To have three of the most recognizable superheroes of all time and not crush all competition and have such a negative reception is one of the greatest disasters in comic book movie history.
You are right, in terms of potential that was a complete and utter failure of the grandest proportion. To me Spidey 3 still feels worse. On a personal note I was never really a fan of 1 or 2, I find them to be entertaining, but very lacking. Again I understand that they were different for many others. But when I heard Venom I thought we were finally going to get some real spidey on the big screen with one of his best villians ever. I was so pumped to see the black suit, the slow corruption of peter, the Eddie Brock that is so torn inside as he desperately wants to do the right thing but is pushed by vengeance and the symbiote to do wrong. It was going to be great...then came Topher and dancing Emo peter...
Oh trust me the Venom thing haunts me to this day. That wasn't Venom and I'm angry it ever happened. One thing I'm hoping for out of this new Spidey series is a real Venom. He was the first anti-hero I identified with in his transition away from being a straight up bad guy, but he was still one of the greatest bad guys too. He and Carnage make such an amazing triangle with Peter Parker. I hope we get to see that on the big screen some day.
I always wonder if they will be able to truly do Carnage on the big screen. He's almost like Deadpool (for different reasons) where if Carnage is PG-13, he's not really Carnage. Carnage is a sick, evil dude. Would Marvel/Disney actually have the sack to turn one of the most family friendly superheroes they own into a violent, rated R movie? I think the answer is a resounding no.
I think a lot of Carnage can be implied violence. You wouldn't show his truly sadistic nature in full, you'd show dozens of body bags and blood filled crime scenes. You can make it pretty dark. I mean the original Freddy Krueger movies used that to perfection in horror films and it can be done the right way. Would they do it? Definitely not right away, but I'd love to see it.
