I'd love to have him back, because while we have a lot of PF's, I think with Luke's system he can play 5 too and it actually be more successful than with B0ron. We don't have a lot of vets and he's about as quality and classy a vet you can get. Would welcome him back in a split backup PF/C role, his defense was as good or better than any big we had last season, he could be more Draymond than anyone we have right now if he got his shot back on track.

Bass makes a great small-ball five. I'd love to have him around.

The only problem is that he and Tarik are redundant. We'd be best served just picking one and letting the other one go. I don't mind whichever one we end up with.

Larry Nance Jr. talked glowingly about Bass and how much he helped in Larry's development.

I do love Bass but I also love Black and the two are redundant. We might have to let one go and it's going to be a tough decision.

Tonight was a perfect time for Barnes to step up for Iguadala and last game for Green... Zip, nada, nyet. He's productive when the others are taking defenses' attention away from him. Also...how about that Ezeli guy?

    Free Agent Bigs
    Rating Scale +18 to -18
The amount in parentheses is what I'd consider a good deal for 1 year of service. I wouldn't go multiple years on some of these players.

    TOP TIER (MAX Players?)
    Hassan Whiteside +12
    Pau Gasol +11
    Al Horford +10
--Hassan's youth plus his top rating make him the clear top choice in my view. I'd max out Horford, but I wouldn't want to get into a long contract with Pau.

    SECOND TIER (~17.5M)
    David Lee +6
    Al Jefferson +5
    Zaza Pachulia +4
--I don't think I mind Lee. Did I just write that? Still, Pachulia is coming off a $5M deal. I'd be happy to double that, and I'd not be opposed to tripling it under the new CBA.

    THIRD TIER (~15M)
    Nene +1
    Amare Stoudemire 0
    Ian Mahinmi 0
    Jordan Hill 0
--Nene and Amar'e are old but still working. Mahinmi is, by far, the most intriguing of these options, but Jordan Hill is a known quantity who has had some successes since leaving LA.

    MIDDLE OF THE PACK (~12.5M)
    Marreese Speights -1
    Cole Aldrich -1
    Timofey Mozgov -2
    Festus Ezeli -2
--Some really interesting names here. They're all youthful enough to make them a good add on a multi-year contract.

    Downward Slope (~10M)
    Joakim Noah -3
    Roy Hibbert -3
    Bismack Biyombo -3
--Two of these guys are going the wrong way, and one of these is going to earn a whole lot more than this, based on his potential. If I could add Noah at 10m, I'd do it; I'd be scared to offer any more than that for Noah or Hibbert.

    Steep Descent (~7.5M)
    *Meyers Leonard -5
    Robert Sacre -6
    Willie Reed -6
    JJ Hickson -6

    Bench Players (~5M)
    Jason Thompson -7
    Jason Smith -7
    Motiejunas -7
    Tarik Black -7
--In the old days, these players wouldn't make more than the Vet Min unless they were on rookie scale or were paid based on potential or legacy peformance. I'd be okay with paying up to $5M to add any of these, but I wouldn't go more.

    No Thanks (~2.5m)
    Jeff Ayers -10
    --Do not want.

BTW, I wanted to say something about salaries. People keep saying, "Contracts are going to be crazy!"

In some cases, they will be. Then again, they won't be as crazy as some suggest.

    Consider max cap space:
Two teams have a maximum cap space of 60m+
    Three more have 50m-60M
    Two more have 40-50M
    Twelve have 30-40m
    Seven have 20-30m
    Three have 10-20M
    One has <10M
This means that, roughly, not more than 27 max contracts will be handed out in Free Agency.

    Conley
    DeRozan, Beal, Wade
Durant, James, Barnes, Parsons, Batum, Deng
    Horford, Gasol, Dirk
    Drummond, Whiteside, Howard, Jefferson
Those are 17 plausible candidates for the max. This means that a max of ten other players will get a max/near max deal.

rodg: i'm not sure how your post above indicates that the salaries won't be crazy. keep in mind that some of the teams that have these players will keep them and probably exceed the cap in doing so, leaving tons of money and donatas motiejunas at whom to throw it.

I wouldn't go as far as saying he's trash, but I vastly prefer Deng over him. Considering the UFA vs RFA factor, it's a no-brainer, really. Hopefully we can steal both Deng and Whiteside from Miami.

There's not enough money to pay every Kent Bazemore $15M. Those players are still mid-level talent, and their salaries will be closer to $7M (mid-level, by definition, in the new CBA) than to $15M.

BTW, paying Bazmore $8M is crazy under the old CBA. So, by that scale, salaries will be crazy. It's just not the case that everyone's going to start out at eight figures.

I am 90% sure that Kent Bazemore will be making 8 figures annually. I don't have the time to say why, but I will later. For what it's worth: you've got a point trodg but I still believe there will be several extraordinary contracts this summer and "value" contracts like Bazemore at 7-8 million will be rare and probably impossible for us.

The horror that is happening with LBJ poised to take over the sports world scenario convinces me I want Whiteside now. In prime athletic rim protector with offensive game I think, right .... more than Biyombo? Has to be able to pass the ball and be a threat like Bogut. Here's why I'm committing now. The world needs to be saved. Copied from Finals thread.

This has convinced me we need a state of the art, motivated Hassan Whiteside (Luuke comes from John Wooden and all the great team first minds and has this covered) Whiteside should be thrilled to come join the incredible young talent and NBA talent being assembled this summer here. Seeing how well Green and Bogut and other lesser rim protectors than Whiteside did against LBJ early on .... we simply need to become elite at the rim with high vertical blocking capable athletes on defense. Ingram will help as will Simmons and I expect very improved Randle overall as well as Clarkson plus Nance. LeBron should still be pressured to shoot.

We are going to have some manly, beastly athletes to bang him with all night long. Sheer strength of upper body I expect Julius to be right with him next year or the next latest. Tarik Black and or Brandon Bass aren't lotus flowers either.

Before the Finals I was willing to overpay for Barnes. I'm officially selling and have zero interest in using cap space on him.

I was still interested because both Barnes and Ingram can play multiple positions, but I wouldn't be surprised if Ingram is better from day one. He's slight, but there's nothing that Barnes is especially good at.

I'm hitching a ride on the improbable Conley wagon now...him and any of the top tier center.

Conley is +13 (I think; I did it quickly) on that scale, making him far and away the best of the non-big options.
