As Nick put it on how the team won:

I love his demeanor, the sense of calmnessand chemistry he brings to the team and locker room, really does lighten up the mood and allows the team to open up. In his interview, he was pointing out that these guys aren't rooks, but vets. Booz, Wes, Lin don't need to be nervous and just play their game. Awesome leadership from Nick, glad we have him signed on long term.

Entire team seemed more confident with him on the floor. He's rusty but was very good still.. very pleased he's back.

This reminds me of when we got RonRon. How different a perception from reality.

Ron still is one of my (and many others) favorite Lakers ever. He was a class act and his 'He is Zen..." speech will forever be ingrained in Lakers history.

Same (first part) goes for Nick. From chucker to actual leader? Whoda thought.

His 3pointer at the end of the first querter from a Kobe pass was PRICELESS.

We did need that scoring; he also makes the game so much easier because the defense doesn't sag off of him, and when they do, he makes them pay for it. It is the kind of impact we needed right now for this team.

As being the bright spot one such a terrible season last year, he really emerged as "that LA kid" who really took it all in and immersed himself in the limelight. Yeah, he was known as a primarily offensive player, but dude could still flat out score. He took it upon himself to take on defense, came under Kobe's wing for guidance, and really emerged from just a volume bench scorer, to bench leader. A guy who is talented enough to start on pretty much all NBA teams. If we somehow get back into contention, he has that LO 6th man role easily.

Nick Young is so important for our team chemistry. It's good to see him back.

Played almost 30 minutes. That 5 mill is worth it afterall. I can also tell Kobe has worked with him on one on one moves as well.

He's making a big difference these 2 games. He gives us a scorer we desperately need, he's a threat that needs to be watched by the defense so he helps simply being on the floor, and his defensive effort I think has been very good. Plus, that personality, dudes seem to relax in a good way when he's around, he keeps it light out there, he brings some much needed fun, and he talks trash/plays with confidence and I think that rubs off on a few of the other guys.

    I'll say it.

He was showing it last season, but we need to recognize that Nick is not just passable on defense, he's become a solid reliable defender. His man usually does not go off on crazy offensive tears when he is in the game. He showed it last season, and he's done nothing but continue to show it this season so far.

@trodgers, can you look into Nick Young's defensive numbers from last season? How the team did with him on the court or anything you think is relevant to the conversation of how good of a defender he is? I'd like to see some hard proof of what I already know from watching the games.

Swaggy P! He is actually bringing it on the defensive end. Great to see. So happy he's back. We need that Swag effect.

Nick has REALLY improved as a defender since coming to the Lakers. I love watching this guy play ... brings it every night.

You can really tell that he wants to be here with how he plays every night. He was one of the only bright spots last season and I'm glad that he's still bringing it this year, albeit only through two games. He's a real difference maker and it's great that we have him for a few more years. I might actually respect him more than Jordan Farmar since he didn't bolt for more money. We bought out Farmar's contract and he left the second he had a chance. His impact on the locker room has been obvious and I really think he'll help this team turn around.

    For what it's worth :

2013-2014 team defensive rating with Nick on the floor : 107.1
2013-2014 team defensive rating with Nick off the floor : 108.6

Usual FG% of all the players defended by Nick : 44.8%
FG% of all the players when Nick defended their shots : 43.8%

    Solid numbers

How can you not love this guy as a Laker?

Before he got here I thought he was nothing but a dingbat. He might be a dingbat, but he's shown true dedication to not only this team, but his own craft. Kobe respects him and even appreciates him for all his silliness because in the end, he's put in the work to make himself better. He's improved his game on every single level since becoming a Laker and it's not like he's some greenhorn either. He's been around, but has never been as good as he is now. Being a Laker is important to him and he's becoming the kind of player that LA can really embrace.

    Give me more Swaggy P!
