Yeah, I'm not ready to write him off yet as harsh as I've been on him. Not to repeat myself, but as a 14th/15th man he is cheap, and can step in and contribute without needing the ball. It's probably why he did just fine playing in lineups next to Russ, Randle, JC, all guys who need the ball. He's already decent defensively, if he can start knocking down the 3 like he is supposed to, no reason to not have him as a end of the bench backup for one more season. Now Kelly and Sacre, they are written off, I've seen all I need to see. Sacre bumped into the ceiling, which now has to be washed and sterilized, so he gets nothing! And Kelly, fooled us all with 3 good preseason games then sucked for an entire season, couldn't make an open to save his life.
i hope he's a success story in terms of riding out the development process (as opposed to kelly/sacre). i was not at all impressed with his first year, but i remind myself that danny green looked like that a bit, too.
So did Khris Middleton; he was another player I thought of when I seen Brown. That said, Green had the luxury of being coached up by Pop and the development staff with SAS. That's where I think Luke and his staff of experienced player development coaches can help Brown especially in a system that can be very beneficial to him. @therealdeal thanks for that link you provided. Tim does such a fantastic job.
No worries. I too have sounded down on him, but the reality is I'm just not getting my hopes up. We've seen some of these hardworkers come through and get nowhere. Sometimes you just don't have it. I hope he proves me wrong and comes out blazing next season. I wasn't impressed with him his rookie year, but I do understand he was put in a pretty crappy situation.
Yeah but Kelly had the luxury of playing for Mike Brown while he missed his whole summer rehabbing after college season, then Pringles and then Boron. What if he'd had a guy like Luke. He may have still winded up disappointing us as much as we are today, but my guess is he would be better than he was able to be with all of that.
To be fair I thought Kelly had a niche in the NBA, but he was never a great shooter and when we put him at SF repeatedly we just killed his career.
I actually disagree, he may not have been good offensively but defensively i saw flashes of great one on one defense
I'm not willing to write AB off yet. The FO liked him enough to sign him for the 2nd year up front, so we may as well give him a chance. Maybe he finds a clear niche in Walton's system. Worst case he's a cheap contract that doesn't work out and is gone in '17.
I actually saw flashes of defensive ability in him. Obviously it's unfair to judge him as a rookie starting against guys like LeBron and Duranf, but he was decent at times. And in B0ron's system, I give him extra credit for even being decent at times as a rookie.
Brown never put together even a decent month - in 25 MPG, he averaged 5 points on 36% FGs; in 31, he averaged 5 on 28%, in the two months he played the most minutes. His offensive game was terrible in nearly every possible way. He did zero on offense. His defense didn't look terrible, and sometimes it was solid. I am counting on him for some minutes this year, but I'm not counting on his being a much better player. It would be nice, but he's a second rounder, after all.
his worse than advertised outside shooting killed his career. that nba three was one step too far for him. if it wasn't, he would have been a solid 20-25mpg backup pf. he knows how to play and actually isn't afraid to get his hands dirty out there. good ball skills for a big, too. just couldn't shoot. who would have guessed?
