Contracts can only go up or down 4.5% a year and I'm 90% sure they can't go up and back down again.

We could sign him for 21 million, but his next season's contract is either 21.95 million or 20.05 million.

The only reason it's different with a poison pill is because of a rule that happens when SOMEONE ELSE signs him. If we give him the extension ourselves, that rule doesn't apply.

I really doubt Horford wants to come to a rebuild. I just don't see him as an option, truthfully.

Biyombo for sure. I'd take him over Whiteside at this point. Younger and he seems more mature. He understands his role and won't complain about shot attempts.

However, a passing big would be ideal for Luke. I wouldn't be upset in the least bit if we end up with Noah, use the max on someone like DeRozen, and grab a decent bench player or two.

I see. In that case an evenly spread contract for the same total would be something like 14.5m, 14.5m, 14.5m, 15m. I'm not sure, but the poison pill contract would likely make him harder to trade down the line.

Bismack Biyombo is currently reminding me of a prime Ben Wallace.

However, it kind of scares the crap out of me if the Lakers need to pay up $20mil/season for him. I don't think he can play like this consistently throughout an entire season. There's a reason why he's the back up to Jonas Valencunius, who averaged 12ppg and 9rpg (only average for a starting calibre center).

    @therealdeal

After reading through your excellent write-up on Derozan and his potential role in the GSW system, I did some digging on my own. I've also been watching the East Finals and I couldn't resist the feeling. that maybe, Derozan is a decent shooter. Maybe the notion that Derozan can't shoot is a bit overblown. Then I came across this shot chart.

Given that he could drive, pull-up, pass, and facilitate, he could be a great piece in Luke's system. And as many have pointed out, he could play multiple positions diversifying our rotations. We also definitely could use a 1st option on offense.

At any rate, the bottom line is that I'm sold. I'm hopping on the Derozan bandwagon.

He's a decent mid-range shooter and his game in the Playoffs has certainly reflected that. I'm 90% it's a psychological issue that keeps him from being effective from distance. He swishes jumpers that are two feet in from the three point line, but clanks threes. That's a head issue, but it's not that big a deal either as long as he can find ways to be productive which he's done.

I am confused. This chart shows that he is, indeed, a lousy shooter from anywhere, but at the rim and left corner 3.

How did it help convert you, @tada?

For comparison, here are some more:

I think you're right as far as it pertains to actual on court impact if viewed in a vacuum. I think my main reason for wanting Horford over Biyombo is we need some vets on this team. We can't have every key player on the roster under 25. Horford won't be here when these kids take the next step, but I'm not sure any of them will take the next step if they don't get some veterans in here. As of right now, assuming Swaggy is cut, Lou Williams is the oldest player on the roster at 29. The next oldest guy is Tarik Black at 24 (assuming he's back). We need veterans who are playing at an all-star (or close to it) level. Hibbert is a nice guy, and seemingly a good teammate, but advice coming from a current all-star level player carries a lot more weight than advice from a dude that is hanging on as the league passes him by.

I think horford would be great for this laker team. Biyombo would fit great with the talent we have, but horford would be the ideal vet we need. High character and talented enough to gain respect.

I still prefer Whiteside, he's the guy I'd go after first. Horford/Biyombo would be my second/third choices - that's a toss up for me, but probably lean towards Horford. Before Whiteside showed me so much in the playoffs Horford was my number one. Biyombo has also busted out in the playoffs and if I'm honest Horford knocked himself down a peg or two this playoffs.

That said, I'd be really happy getting any of them. They are all a big upgrade over Roy. I'd be ecstatic actually. I'd also be ok with Noah.

The only guy I'm kind of on the fence about is Ezeli because of his knees.

I'm sorry, JC. I keep forgetting you, bro.

    Russell/Clarkson
    DeRozan/Williams
    Ingram/Young/Brown
    Randle/Nance
    Biyombo/
    +2nd Rounder

Some thoughts: that's 85.5M. That leaves 6.5m, and we haven't gotten rid of Young. We have a draft pick in the second round that will get some $, but it's negligible. So with that $, we could add a vet backup big (I like Stoudemire) possibly a super cheap vet SF (Dorell Wright or Rasual Butler) or PF. Those guys could add some veteran presence.

    Russell/Clarkson
    DeRozan/Williams
    Ingram/Young/Brown
    Randle/Nance
    Biyombo/Stoudemire
    +2nd rounder

    Knowing it's possible is exciting.

No. Because he sometimes attacks the rim like a pale-skinned dude, but is, in reality, a dark-skinned dude.

If we're being completely honest, isn't he more of a medium skinned dude?

You don't want a guy like lance anywhere near our young guys IMO. We need high character only. These guys are basically college kids.

    3/4 ... unless Filipino are considered pale-skinned.

P.S. I hope everyone understands that I am actually mocking the very fact of it being relevant.
