I meant to say a salary starting at 20M per year....sorry for the confusion. I'm in agreement with you that he's going to get 2/40M. Ugh....this summer is going to suck giving out these types of deals to mediocre talent....

How did we go from wanting/needing talent at almost any costs to okay with not signing anyone of note, staying mediocre, not acquiring talent (or assets) that we can trade later if it doesn't work out in a couple pages? We seemed to be in on it's finally time to sign some talent and stop hoarding money for a superstar, to being fine with not signing anyone to save money again. Is this a Durant/Westbrook thing, like now people are thinking Durant stays and signs a 1+1 deal and we think we can sign both those guys next offseason? Because if so I'm not seeing it. I've flip flopped on DeRozan a few times, and I'm still unsure, but I'm not going to be upset if we sign him. I will be upset if we sign an aging Horford for 25 mil per though, blech.

Agree with general thought, but I wouldn't hate Horford. He could attract others.

I'm assuming Horford would come with someone else as well. It makes his contract sound fine. Not to mention, his contract at 25 million in a few years is going to sound fantastic.

It'll be interesting to see what Mitch comes up with creatively as far as contracts go. Front-loaded deals can only go down 4.5% a year so even that's got its limits. I suppose we could try for the OKC "signing bonus" thing, but I don't know if that's been fixed by the NBA yet or not.

The cap will increase by around 30% next season and 60% the following year. That makes paying $10 million for MLE-type talent somewhat okay, but not $15-20 million. That is 300-400% of the current value, so unless we're expecting $250+ caps, that is overpaying. When the dust settles, teams that overpay will turn out to be losers. Don't get too wrapped up in this craze. Numbers don't lie.

How many years are we talking on a Hordord max contract though? 4? 5? My issue is not wanting a 33 year old Horford making 25 mil. I'm with you in that I'd rather go after Noah on a cheaper and shorter contract. My ONLY concern with him is injury, but other than that I love what he brings.

I'd almost prefer an Ezeli knowing he can give as many minutes as a Noah, but sooo much younger.

25 million will be less than 25% of the max. The max contract for a 7-9 year player in the 2017 cap will be 10 million more dollars than that. At 25 million Both Horford and DeRozan for max deals will still be good value. Those two would be less than 25% of the total cap in 2017 comparable to someone getting paid roughly 16-18 million in today's cap environment. You're right: numbers don't lie my friend. All-Stars getting paid 16-18 million in today's NBA are some of the most valuable assets.

A max deal for Horford is something like 4/110 million or so starting between 25-26 million. We'd have him at something like 29 million that last year which will be at worst 25% of the cap which is the lowest max amount. In fact it could be as low as 23% of the cap or so. The max starts (for players with 0-6 years of experience) at 29 million. The max for 7-9 years will be 34 million or so. The max for 10+ years will start at almost 40 million dollars.

    Step 1: draft Ben Simmons
Step 2 & 3: sign Derozen and Horford

    PG-DAR/Huertas
    SG- Clarkson/Lou Will
    SF- Derozen/Simmons
    PF -Randle/Nance
    C- Horford/Black

Not the best defensive team, but we should be able to score the basketball. The key would be getting Clarkson and Randle to buy in defensively.

That's an immensely talented team that I'd love to see come to fruition, but the shooting is horrendous! Russell is literally the only real shooter. Clarkson, lou, and Derozen are volume shooters and horford is good for a big, but Randle, Simmons, Huertas... Yikes!

Derozan and Horford are allstars and are definitely worth the max. I'm talking about overpaying for mediocre talent. Someone mentioned 3rd string centers getting.payed $10 million. Then how much would bigs like Ezeli and Biyombo collect? Close to the max? We need to pump the brakes on that kind of contract. That's all I'm saying.

Guys , 2013-2014 Noah is long gone ... His body is breaking down and he has finished at the rim at a D.Fish rate for the latest two seasons...

Trust me you don't want to spend one single dollar on him

Oh that was still me who said it :D

No the point isn't to give it to them because you WANT to but because it will help you hit the cap floor. Pincus brought up Sacre getting a huge one-year contract just to get us to the cap floor if we're unable to sign anybody else this summer. It's a possibility is all I'm saying. We're going to see some CRAZY contracts this summer. Some of them will be crazy creative and some of them will be just awful.

I totally disagree. Not about the shooting thing, that's true (although part of that his due to him being out of shape from being injured). I think there's plenty of good reason to sign him. He's a great passer, great leader, great professional, and would fit the offense well. If we had a Center behind him who could play significant minutes, Noah would be a terrific approximation of what Bogut does for Golden State.
