Yeah Bynum and Maker are two totally different prospects. Bynum was a pudgy kid with great talent as a classic big man. Maker is a skinny kid who plays like KD but has none of his awareness. I'd still draft him and put him on the D-Fenders to season for 3 years, but seriously he's far from ready to compete in the NBA. Really really far.
And even if Brown ends up being a failure it's not like there was heaps of talent available that we passed on for Brown. I think Norman Powell is the only player drafted after Brown who is contributing.
Which stings me a bit because I like Norman and I liked him at the time. That being said, 90% of us were asking for Anthony Brown in the 2nd round and we got him so... Sometimes you just miss. Like you said: no harm done really if he doesn't work out. The Lakers were smart enough to nab Nance Jr. in the 1st which was an absolute steal.
Win the Lottery => draft Ben Simmons => trade Julius Randle to the Wolves for #6 pick => draft Buddy Hields Sign Whiteside, sign Batum => 2018 NBA CHAMPS
Add Zach Lavine to that deal with Minnesota and its a conversation....I still probably don't do that deal.

Well, that team doesn't stand a chance of getting to title contention in just 2 years. And we now made Mindy unbeatable. You just created a Rubio/Lavine/Wiggins/Randle/Towns starting 5.
The no.1 pick goes to Philly. It was a "wink wink" deal with the NBA when they hired Colangelo. Anyone who thinks lottery is not rigged is naive .
