Seriously? Is there any debate here?

Team Iron Man = more government control + a leader that is completely personally unstable.

Team Cap = less government control + the best comic book leader ever.

Hmmmm, I'm really torn on this...

I love that both sides have points. I'll spoiler my answer just in case, but it shouldn't ruin any fun for the movie:

    It's Cap.

First of all, Tony is clearly unstable in this movie. He broke up with his girlfriend and he's just insanely guilty about all the lives he's been responsible for. It's a bummer but it's clearly affecting his decision making process. Now, he's right about a lot of things but he is underestimating the consequences.

Cap tells Tony "what if the government tells us where to go and we don't agree with it? what if they want us to go somewhere, but we think there's another place that needs our help more?" Tony never has an answer for it and I don't think it's something he even thinks about. He thinks (rightfully) that this sort of intervention is going to come no matter what and if they DON'T do it, the world governments will reject them and something even worse can come from it. SOME sort of something is needed, but what he's supporting isn't the right answer.

The reason you go Cap though is because Cap's point is proven almost immediately! As soon as Iron Man and the rest sign the Accords, Ross becomes their boss telling them where to go and when which doesn't make any damn sense. Wasn't the whole point of the Accords so that the UN could create a committee which decides where they go? Well typical of government, that's NOT how it works. What actually happens is Iron Man loses control right away and is forced to follow the orders of a General who is a complete d*** with his own anti-superpowered person agenda.

Iron Man's heart is in the right place, but he's not thinking things through clearly. That doesn't excuse Cap going to such great lengths to protect a guy who probably needs a trial, but Cap is still right.

They finally found the perfect actor for Spiderman and the Russo's handled the character perfectly.

    Black Panther = awesome!1!111!!!

Falcon developments were scrumpcilicious. Using the wings as shields + the drone was genius.

Scarlet Witch powers are developing nicely. Loved the Vision confrontation.

Vision's fight scene showing the effortlessness of his de-rematerialization was spot on.

Antman nearly stole the entire movie. He played a HUGE role.

Cap's fight sequences in Nigeria and the final Iron Man sequence were just soooo well done.

    Minor quibbles:
Aunt May: really? (If you are an original Spiderman comic fan)
    Too little of Hawkeye.
Jerked me around a bit with the other Winter Soldiers.

I'm pretty excited they're embracing the Vision/Wanda dynamic. I wasn't sure if they would considering it's... weird. :D

If this movie did anything for me outside of enjoying it for itself, it got me AMPED up for Black Panther's solo movie. Boseman was perfect.

They continue to make Falcon a cool character and make him unique and fun. The addition of Redwing was so great. A modern take on his sillier comic book equivalent? Hell yeah. (In the comics Falcon can talk to his pet falcon with his brain... wouldn't really work I think on screen! :D)

Aunt May might not be a perfect comic translation, but it actually makes way more sense if you think about it. Peter is what 16 in this movie? How freaking old were Peter's parents and their siblings?? Marisa Tomei is 51 years young. I think that fits just about perfectly in the age range even if she is oddly fantastic looking.

I wish there was more Renner, but he was great for every second! And yeah those Winter Soldiers were completely a fake out. That was the moment the movie decided to go deeper instead of bigger... That doesn't sound right... But I mean they went an emotional and difficult route with Iron Man and Cap and Bucky instead of just letting the whole thing turn into Iron Man 3 and it's a bunch of explosions and things going on without a lot of thought. I like the way they went.

Something very few people are talking about:
Vision's solo moment in the house. I don't know how many people really caught it or how freaking creepy it was and how much it shows that despite Vision WANTING to be a human, he's definitely not. When Hawkeye goes to break out Wanda, he sets off an explosion in the fields of the training facility. When that explosion goes off it lights up a dark room with Vision just staring at nothing, not moving. It was super creepy and well done. If anyone is reading the Vision comics that are out right now, it's very much inspired by that material. So weird!

So I found this article on yahoo. Not too sure whether it's believeable or not because it is from yahoo. But anyways apparantly there is a website that is petitioning against Disney paying critics to give bad reviews to non mcu movies. My opinion on this people will either love it or hate it. But yeah here's the link.

    1. Online petitions are stupid and don't work.

    2. :D :D :D :D :D :D

    3. What kind of strange, desperate fan thinks they're being persecuted by Disney buying off critics? As if Disney has never had movies criticized? The movie they're releasing right now Alice has been critically trashed. Tomorrowland with George Clooney was trashed. They made a Lone Ranger movie that no one liked. They spent tens of millions of dollars on John Carter (which honestly isn't the worst movie ever) that was critically trashed.

Disney is as capable of effing up a movie as any other studio, but the generally will not because they put great detail and attention into their products. You know why? Because while some bad movies will make good money, that's not a great bet. A great bet is a good movie making a lot of money. That doesn't mean they won't occasionally make mistakes, but they don't as often as other studios (HI WARNER BROTHERS AND YOUR 17 MOVIES THAT HAVE MADE HARDLY ANY MONEY THIS YEAR!)

They're on a hot streak this year and with properties like Marvel, Pixar, and Lucas all under their umbrella that hot streak is likely to continue this year. They've got three movies out already that should hit a billion dollars in Jungle Book, Zootopia, and Civil War. Finding Dory and Rogue One could possibly come close to that total too. They're likely to make 5 billion dollars in the box office by themselves which would be roughly 43% of the entire box office last year.

A petition... :D Disney doesn't need to pay off critics right now, they're just making good movies. Maybe if Warner Brothers made good movies, they wouldn't be b****ing right now.

So...finally saw it. Pure awesomeness indeed. Gonna have to see it again. Too much awesomeness to comprehend in one viewing.
    Initial thoughts:
Best fight scenes of any superhero hero movie. Flat out well choreographed.
Despite a good number of characters, the story didn't suffer, nor the pace of the movie. As mentioned before, each character had a chance to shine and they made the most of it perfectly.
Perfect casting for Spider-Man and black panther.
And how about the motorcycle stealing scene with Bucky? That was straight up off the hook!

Because they had so many origin movies on most of the characters they can now fully use anybody for team up movies without having to do any back story or anything. Makes it so much easier for the story to flow.

Disney is pretty much printing money at this point. Counting Star Wars at the end of last year, plus Zootopeia, Jungle Book, Civil War and later Finding Dory, Doctor Strange and Rougue One; they will be making soooooooooooo much money!

A valid complaint about the Marvel movies I hear is, at this point you can't miss one or else the bigger tie in movies will be confusing. There really is no good jumping in point, you just kind of have to watch everything and a couple of those films have been pretty bad.

I think at this point for Marvel the key is you can enjoy the movies on their own, but definitely the experience of seeing them all is part of the deal. It's an ingenious way to make movies and it's based off the way they make money with the comics they're based off of. You can jump in and have fun but it's best to know them all. I think it's brilliant.

I have friends who haven't seen any Captain America movies but loved Civil War. Now they're going to go watch them and that means more $$.

It is a bit daunting though for people who know nothing about the Comic books. But like you said, they make their movies enjoyable. They made Antman and Guardians work as standalones.

One of my friends did have to leave a third into Civil War cause his girl didn't know who was who and just wasn't into it. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

How whipped is your friend that he allowed his girlfriend to pull him out of a movie 40 minutes in? What? The girl couldn't be bothered to sit through another hour and a half of something for him?

Man I would of told that girl to walk her butt home. I would of stayed and had a blast watching that movie. One thing for sure I'm grateful for, my girl is nerdy just like me when it comes to comic book movies

She could have just asked :)

My wife is half into it because I am, but if she doesn't know who someone is she just asks. Honestly at this point if you don't know who these people are that's kind of your problem right? The movies have been around almost 10 years and there's always a wiki page... Seems like someone was just having a rough night?

No idea if she was having a rough night or not since I wasn't with that viewing group, only heard the story off hand. But yes, he's kind of whipped and she's farthest from being nerdy as possible. The rest of this story belongs in the rant about girls thread :D

Anyways, are the Russo brothers doing Infinity Wars too? Because if they aren't, they really need to be.

They are definitely doing the Infinity Wars (although that name is going to change).

The first draft of that movie has been turned in already. I don't know how they top Civil War, but it's theirs and we'll see what they do.
